Hellbent Posted April 4, 2006 I really like simplicity in my DooM which is why after playing with freelook for awhile I eventually went back to good ol' native doom's "heat seak" for aiming up and down. Now I think I had this idea many years ago, but I want to address it again. I would really like to see an opition in Zdoom preferably, that would allow you to know before firing if DooM's heatsink mode has been invoked. Maybe the gun tilts up a bit or down a bit or just the crosshair. Or maybe to take it one step further, to have a freelook option that is a "freeaim" rather than freelook. So instead of allowing you to look up and down it lets you aim up and down but only your gun moves up and down or just the crosshair. I dunno, just brainstorming. I prefer my first idea so it removes the cumbersome of freelook. 0 Share this post Link to post
wildweasel Posted April 4, 2006 If I'm going to play with autoaim, I'd prefer that it be either Goldeneye style (where the gun shifts on screen to aim at enemies) or Rise of the Triad style (where the view automatically pitches up and down to aim at foes on ledges). Anything else tends to be very confusing. 0 Share this post Link to post
abysmal Posted April 6, 2006 I use Legacy without a mouse or freelook. Usually if you can see the enemy decently and are aimed right at it you should know that autoaim will kick in. If not, you waste a bullet and take a step back and that usually puts an autoaimed shot out. 0 Share this post Link to post

I think you're right Weasel. I think Goldeneye is prolly best. Well, maybe I should email Randy Heit. Thanks for weighing in on this very weighty issue. :P I forgot that these gameplay modes had already been established in other games. 0 Share this post Link to post
