Weapon Drawing

How would i draw my own weapons? I try taking a screenshot of something and then converting it to a 256 BMP but it looks lousy. Is there any tips for drawing my own weapons?

Sorry, I was out of town when you posted.

If you want something that looks like it belongs in Doom, your best bet is to take existing graphics and modifying them. The Doom alphas and betas are another good source for Doomlike weapons. However, if you're going for another look, or don't mind using angled weapons, then Corrupted Marine, Nmn, and Scuba Steve have made quite an extensive collection of weapon sprites. Try searching the forums.
