finding an exit in deepsea

Searching for the 162 tag doesn't seem to work on entryway, probably the most simple of maps. I suck hard at navigating, so I'd like to be able to mark the end of a map before I play it - I have trouble progressing to the next map, even with cheats! Of course, search is in the help file, but it just tells me I can search for that linedef - unless an exit is another kind of lump...

Not asking about map01 of any wad, of course, but the way to find it for any wad where the exit in a map may be where you least expect it - e.g, memento mori, eternal doom? I don't think any ports color-code exit points, either...

use an editor that has a search function, like doombuilder.

Boom and ports descended from it allow you to change the colour-coding on the automap. This includes the colour used for exit switches and exit linedefs.

when i was like.. 4 or 5.. i couldnt get out of E1M1's first room without help

anyway from memory:

go straight into the hallway, turn right down the hallway, turn right into big brown room, turn left 90 degrees, walk forward until you see an exit door to your left. Go through it. Next part is kinda tricky: there's a switch right inside the door which you have to press. Dont get discouraged if you cant press it the first few times, it gets easier with practice. Congratulations the level is over!
