Jimmy Posted April 28, 2006 They say curiosity killed the cat, right? Well in this case, it's killed XWE. I've removed the menu toolbar from the program and I can't get it back. If I don't get it back soon, i fear I may never be able to use XWE again. PLEASE HELP ME! -jimmy91, newb 1 Share this post Link to post

You had a legitimate question, and posted it in the correct forum. Check out Post Hell, people have done much worse. 0 Share this post Link to post
Grazza Posted April 29, 2006 Actually, I'd say this is a very useful question, which could double as a feature request. If you have accidentally pressed F11, there is no indication as far as I can see of how you get the menus back. That could perhaps be added somewhere (like in programs where you have gone to fullscreen mode, there will often be an indication on-screen of how to get back from it). 0 Share this post Link to post
myk Posted April 29, 2006 I wasn't aware of that "no menu" feature. Honestly, why would someone want to remove the menus? It's not like you get more than a few pixels of additional viewing space. IE has a remotely similar thing for F11, but it switches to full screen mode and you can get rid of everything (except the scroll bar) by setting auto-hide for the buttons menu . 0 Share this post Link to post
Jimmy Posted May 2, 2006 While we're on the topic of XWE, (and I don't know how many times this has been reported) I keep getting an "I/O error 32" 50% of the time I close XWE. I don't get it when I save my work, perform a Clean Up, and then exit XWE. It doesn't affect my work in any way, it's just annoying. :-( 0 Share this post Link to post
Csabo Posted May 3, 2006 I think that's the first time this has been reported. The one thing that XWE does at shutdown is clean up the temporary undo files from the temp folder, this is probably what fails. Do you by any chance open up multilpe instances of XWE at the same time? That might cause this problem. I'll look into it, maybe I can suppress those errors. 0 Share this post Link to post
myk Posted May 3, 2006 I think I've seen that error message, and every time I'm almost sure it was because I had opened a wad or IWAD with some application and used XWE at the same time. I just opened DOOM2.WAD with WinTex and then with XWE and didn't get the error (I didn't try applying any changes through either, though), but when I opened DeHackEd in a DOS window and then opened DOOM2.WAD in XWE I got error 32 (failing to open the IWAD.) 0 Share this post Link to post

I haven't actually considered that or anything else along those lines being the cause of the problem. I'll try and reproduce the error. 0 Share this post Link to post
Jimmy Posted May 6, 2006 OK, I don't think what you suggested was the cause of the problem, Csabo. :( I was just browsing one of the Aeons of Death wads, when I saw this at the bottom of the screen. WTF is that supposed to mean? :) 0 Share this post Link to post
Csabo Posted May 7, 2006 It means XWE tried to load a text lump into the regular textbox control. The regular textbox control has a 64K limit, so some entries just cannot fit. When XWE cannot load all of the text, it displays that message, and disables the "Save" function to prevent users from modifying and then re-saving the truncated text. If you use the CodeMax control (see this thread: http://www.doomworld.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=36653), you won't have this problem. 0 Share this post Link to post
