Fears of a second Cold War

Recommended Posts

Tensions have been on the rise between the USA and Russia since around 2004, as Russia aims to exercise hegemony and control of energy resources over Central Asia and transcaucasia, where the USA seeks interest and competition as well. Tensions have even risen more since Cheney had recently spoken in Lithuania, who stated that Russia is yielding to limited civil liberties and uses blackmailing and intimidation to retain control.

Now people think there might be a second Cold War, one which will center more on economy and focus on the regions of Central Asia and transcaucasia.

Yeah there is a second "cold war", except this time around "Communists" are "Terrorists". Same shit, different century.

I dunno, the whole terrorist thing isnt what I'd call a cold war. Its more of a hot war because theres actual violence and fighting, but thats assuming you call it a war in the first place since its not a country we're fighting but organizations.

There was warfare and genocide throughout practically all of the "cold war".

but thats assuming you call it a war in the first place since its not a country we're fighting but organizations.

Not even that (the organizations aren't even clearly defined and sometimes partly fabricated, exaggerated or misconceived), though during the cold war it was similar, except it was communist or socialist organizations. Actually, what's happening now is pretty much the same; Iraq, for instance, was attacked for defending its local interests (as opposed to the interests of the US). The US did that often in various continents during the "cold war" period.

The "war on terror" is a surrogate for the "war on communism" and was modelled after what happens in Israel after the US got more involved in shit in the middle-east (or moved to get more involved, or in backing Israel more aggresively).

Uh how does this relate to terrorism? This is specifically between Russia and the USA. The only way it would relate to terrorism is that there are some conflicts over land between Armenia and Azerbaijan and there is a rise in terrorism in Central Asia that is wanted to be eradicated -- yet, terrorism is not the central issue here, it's economy and control over energy resources in those two regions.

When was that not the case?

It's just that Cheney's "war on terrorism" is producing such negative effects that he's now more into "global democratization". He should just be sincere and say "global Americanization".

Russia and the US are likely always going to have tensions. If I'm not mistaken didn't Bush break a treaty with them when he came into office for some stupid "missile defense plan"?

War on terror was lost long time ago.

There is no way the goverments of the world would ever stop fearing about a terrorist atack. One thing is to be prepared for an attack, other thing is to always be fearful about what might happen.

When the Government talks about "terroists" their actually talking about US. All Governments fear of losing their power from the hands of their own citizens (All Governments corrupt and history has proven that since humanity are the true monsters after all...thats why we need Anarchy which is the best system that humanity is supposed to live under...like Animals do), and the "War on Terrorism" is nothing but a white lie for the Government to cover up their own asses when their actually cracking down on people that actually believe in True Freedom that are trying to overthrow the Government to build a better future for all wo/mankind. One the major reasons for this is because [conspiracy mode]whoever is behind the Government (The Global Elite, Illumanti, ect) is actually pushing us towards right into a political trap called a "Technocracy" (The Ultimate dystopian nightmare).[/conspiracy mode ended]

So the true name of "War on Terrorism" is actually translated "War on Freedom" or "War on Humanity"

Authorizing of illegal wiretaps is a fine example of this. I still want to throw Bush in a volcano over that. If he wants to keep his citizens loyal and all he needs to learn NOT to piss them off.

Personally, I play games (and, by extension, visit game forums) simply because I want to avoid/forget about the crazy world I live in...

Imagine if world wars were all fought in strategy games. That would be midely entertaining and safe.

Heh, the USA constantly contradicts its sole ideology supporting free-will of peoples by invading Iraq, for instance, and fighting wars to stop communist revolutions as it did in the past in such countries as Chile and Vietnam.

Not only that: The U.S. Government (and the EU, UN, ect) does have a "Resistance is Futile, You WILL be Assimilated" mentality aswell....This was first hinted when the U.S Government genocided and (Almost) Assimilated the Native American Indians. (As they always say, The Tiger NEVER looses it's stripes....)

I always assumed the genocide of the Native Americans was more in the name of conquest, racism and imperialism than assimilating them. I do seem to remember attempts at converting them to Christianity and giving them "Christian" names, as was the proper technique with most empires at the time. Today, it's more about trying to assimilate them into the average populace rather than outright convert them to a new ideology, what with most Indian Reservations being bankrupt outside of casinos.

Possibly, although Jesuit missionaries surely had a more assimilative objective than most other colonists. Also, generally, the Spanish killed them less and used them more, aside from initial invasions and other atrocities (that's why the idea is that a "latino" is generally a mestizo, and native Americans are so rare in the US).

The US has become the Evil Empire. A little genocide here (Central America under Reagan, anyone?), provoking some civil war there (Iraq) ... it's all good.

If anything I expect a major Hot War in the next few decades, once people start realising that the oil is running out and hydrogen isn't the magical solution we've been promised.

Hm, this is really more of a 'drunken rant' type topic. I'll spare you guys the rest.

Unfortunately it seems assholes like Dick Cheney can only get off if real lives and money are involved.

Something that we would make a lot of people happy and reduce a lot of tensions would be if we got the fuck out of Israel. What's so great about that place anyway, it's not like they have anything that we want, other than some stupid holy city.
