What idiots buy consoles when they are released anyway? (ok, i did with the PSP, but that was different, its a portable porn device and therefore worth the money), within a few months they knock £100-200 off anyway. Plus you'll have a better chance of finding one in the first place

I was all ready going to get the Wii when first heard you can DL Nintendo's library.
Ya, you can get roms but, it not the same thing as playing console games on a consloe. And the hybrid Snes controller looks bad ass.

Regardless of when the launch happens, the publisher said it expects to ship 6 million consoles before the end of March 2007, as well as 17 million games.

PCs in general are a lot better then consoles. I don't know why I've wasted so much money on console games over the years. The Wii looks like a cool system, but unless it's close to $200 (like $225), I won't buy it until it's cheap.

Everybody is bitching about the price of gas, heating oil, health care, and housing yet we can afford to blow $600-$700 on a video game.

£425 is not enough to buy a top-of-the-line PC in Britain, but it can get you quite far along the way to one that's for sure.

I have two opinions about all this. One is, yes, save the £425 and get a MUCH better PC. But I appreciate there are just big console fans out there, personally, there is no way I'd spend that on a console plus I think consoles in their present form are dated. Ever since the 16-bit era I think they've continued to lose their appeal by growing too complicated. That's why I spent £100 recently amassing a Mega CD and Mega Drive collection and am pretty happy with it :D

Wii is probably the most honest console choice. I think Nintendo are wise to not try to compete with PC prices and technology, but my second opinion is that ultimately, you get what you pay for. Like I said on IRC the reason why the PS3 will be more expensive is because it should be (if it works unlike at E3) a superior system.

If you prefer Nintendo line-up, this doesn't matter. However if, like me, you prefer the Sony titles your stuck between buying an affordable console that you don't really want and a very expensive one you wouldn't mind having.

People find it easier to motivate high expenses for something they like and enjoy (entertainment, travelling, vices) than for necessities that they just pay for because they know they have to. That's just the way it is.

I could really care less about console wars. I generally side against the companies with the least integrity. I'd have to rank Microsoft and Sony as a tie for being at the most abmysal depths lacking in integrity, for their lack of quality and durability, and other shady, overbearing, and underhanded stuff. Nintendo can go fuck themselves almost as most for their overbearing censorship and more stringent media gatekeeper BS as well as their greed. I've found Sega and NEC/Hudson(PC-Engine/TurboGraphX) to be the most respectable. Unfortunately Sega made some poor business decisions and then Sega of America became utterly retarded blocking a lot of American releases because they didn't think they were marketable. Dreamcast is still a better system in most aspects than PS2. It still has more good games to offer than GameCube or X-Box. X-Box 360 is defective as hell and I really don't see any big deal about the system. Maybe PS3 will actually have a competent amount of ram and hardware anti-aliasing. Wii looks a bit interesting but I'm still fed up with Nintendo. I currently have no plans to get any current systems or the next gen. All industries suck now. I've played very few games and haven't gone through the trouble of hooking up a console in over 7 and 1/2 months.
