Small request for a texture artist

I have an idea for a certain area in this map, but I can't do it without a certain texture...

If anyone knows how, i need this texture to fade to black vertically.
one fading up, the other fading down.

Easy enough. You can use a bucket-fill brush thing with a non-repeating gradient, set to "darken only" or something... Download The GIMP, it's free and you can play around and get easy effects like that, uh, easily.

It looked darker in Adobe. I'm not going back there.

This one is a bit darker at the bottom.
It's hard doing it perfectly with that texture as those colors tend to wash out as they get darker.

Also, a small note: the texture that gemini posted is not exactly in the Doom palette so it'll discolor some after you insert it into your wad.

yeah, i figured out how to do it in psp9. really simple. however, when you convert it to the doom pallete it looks like absolute ASS. especially with brown metal textures.

the green looks nice, but i can't say the same for the other texture.

Looks pretty good to me, although there's always a difference from seeing a screenshot and seeing it in game.

Yeah looks good imo it gives your map an more creepy look, maybe some blood splatters at the bottom aswell.
