Odd Eye Posted June 5, 2006 Is it true that you can't see the difference between a lighting level of say 144 and 152. Every time I do this I just can't see any difference, it looks like the same level of lighting. Is my sight failing me or is it really impossible to see any difference? 0 Share this post Link to post
boris Posted June 5, 2006 IIRC the steps are multiples of 16, i.e. 16, 32, 48 etc. ZDoom (other ports, too?) changed it to smaller steps though. 0 Share this post Link to post
Ichor Posted June 5, 2006 I think you can see a slight difference in GL ports like JDoom. 0 Share this post Link to post
TheDarkArchon Posted June 5, 2006 Generally, OpenGL ports use per-unit brightness. 0 Share this post Link to post

EarthQuake Posted June 5, 2006 No one has mentioned yet that Doom uses a colormap and palette. 256 colors, and that's not enough to show very slight changes in light levels. Of course this doesn't apply to OpenGL ports, though. 0 Share this post Link to post
Fusion Posted June 6, 2006 I was generally under the impression that doom lit levels at 16 unit intervals whereas certain ports such as zdoom, light levels at 8 units, thus greater falloffs and more dramatic lighting effects. 0 Share this post Link to post
