ZDOOM Question

Recommended Posts

I have Zdoom 1.22 and when I run Doom in it, it plays exactly like it does when its ran in MS-DOS. Anyway, I downloaded another version of Zdoom in order to play Strife. The game seemed to play fine its just when you move it looks all smooth. Any game that runs in the version does that. Anyone know what thats all about?

I think the original DOS Doom.exes and early versions of ZDoom have a 15 (maybe 30?) FPS cap that later versions of ZDoom removed. If you want to reinstate the FPS cap, for whatever reason, there's probably a way, but I have no idea how this is done.

That's the uncapped framerate feature, introduced somewhere around version 2.0.47 IIRC. It interpolates additional frames between each gametic (there are 35 gametics per second) so as to make the movement of everything look smoother.

If you don't like it, you can turn it off. Locate "cl_capfps=false" in your ini file and change it to "cl_capfps=true".
