LorD BaZTArD Posted June 21, 2001 People. I am getting Annoyed. Lotsa people are coming up with interesting ideas here.... but are getting flamed "Coz it ain't doom" Off Course It aint Doom. That Kind of style is dead. Thank God (Me) So.... Thank ME.....Heh heh Back When Doom Came out that was state of the art. It was not 3D. But Simulated 3D. It had Atmosphere yes. However most of this atmosphere was created by the fixed view. (No up - down) At First this may sound absurd but.............. Think about this: You are in a restrained position and cannot move. While you hear demons zeroing in on you. Now Think About this: You Can Move about completely and know the demons are behind you so you run away. Hmm. Which is scarier? First One? Duh Also, Since Doom II came out several new styles of FPS are coming into play, these are: (A) Generic: Doom, Quake, Wolfenstien, Duke3D (B) Thinking: IGI, Goldeneye (N64 but...) Thief, Thief 2 Deus Ex (C) Action Movie or Story driven: Half Life, System Shock 2, Duke Nukem Forever, RTCW, Deus Ex. (D) Horror: Clive Barkers Undying, American Mgee's Alice Half Life, System Shock 2. (Yes, I know a couple of games are in multiple categorys, They deserve that.) The New Doom has: (A) Complex Story (Planned) (B) Incredible Graphics (C) Monsters. (D) SHADOWS This Is NOT Doom 1/2 No Massive Monster Hordes here. Instead we will have several stealthy and ugly(Scary) monsters who love shadows, Incredible sound, (Monster Growls in BG. (If you have Surround sound) You here Monster in Background. This can work well if done right. Imagine Playing Doom 3 late one night, Up to a seemingly empty room, suddenly a loud roar is heard behind you, AND YOU ACTUALLY LOOK BEHIND YOUR CHAIR That IS Scary. Make you shit ya pants. This i 0 Share this post Link to post
Zaldron Posted June 21, 2001 Huh? Show me 3 links to posts where someone comes with an innovative idea and we flame him. And why do you press the Enter key so often? 0 Share this post Link to post
Doom-Child Posted June 21, 2001 That's the whole reason we're talking about it so much. If anyone in any kind of power (at id, that is) realizes that we don't want another Half-Life, where you can go an entire mission subsection without seeing more than eight enemies, then maybe we'll get the run-n-gun, move-fast-and-shoot-faster experience that made DOOM such a badass game to play. Zaldron Posted June 21, 2001 WTF? Speak for yourself. I'm all for Half-Life experience. In fact, if I could make a personal version of DooM 3 I would make it as complex as SS2. 0 Share this post Link to post
Doom-Child Posted June 21, 2001 Ok then, I WILL speak for myself. HL was a great game, but I hated all the down time. I've played the game totally through at least eight times(and I've done OpFor twice, I think), so it's not for a lack of playing the game that I say that. I just like faster-paced, gib-fest action. Zaldron Posted June 21, 2001 Gib Fest + Storyline = Huh? How? What? Serious Sam is the only product in the market that would suit your needs. I'm personally happy that old fashioned shooters are a dying genre. 0 Share this post Link to post
Doom-Child Posted June 21, 2001 You don't need a complicated storyline to make a game more than a gorefest (although I would say we need more old skool gorefests). A few simple cutscenes, maybe a scripted event here or there, and you're golden. Basically, HL with a SHITLOAD more enemies. DC 0 Share this post Link to post
Zaldron Posted June 21, 2001 More enemies that HL would be welcome. But I think that depends more on the AI and the graphics demand. People has to remember that now everything's done in the GPU. There's plenty of CPU to make weird stuff. Every behavior algorythm that was effective but too slow for today games can now be tested in the new engine. 0 Share this post Link to post
Doom-Child Posted June 21, 2001 Yeah, I'm really hoping they don't skimp on the flocking. I think four or fives Imp-like things (for lack of a real name) coordinating around cover would kick ASS. Well, it'd kick MY ass, anyway. DC 0 Share this post Link to post
Dark Fox Posted June 21, 2001 In fact, if I could make a personal version of DooM 3 I would make it as complex as SS2. Damn straight m8! 0 Share this post Link to post
LorD BaZTArD Posted June 22, 2001 Zaldron: (A)Huh? Show me 3 links to posts where someone comes with an innovative idea and we flame him. (B)Why do you press the Enter key so often? Two Answers Zald. (A) I Can't but it happened on the B.N (Before New) Board. But It Does Happen (B) COZ I LIKE PRESSING ENTER KEY AND I WILL KEEP PRESSING IT! DoomChild: Hey DoomChild, I like Half Life. It rules. Beat me on One respect. I've only completed it 7 Times, But I have Completed OP For 3 Times. So there. Personally, I want The New Doom to be Half-life Style. WITH INCREDIBLE AI IT WILL RULE See with Half Life, the Enemies were smart enough to ambush you or swarm you. It was only scripted behavior, Zaldron Should Agree with me but (Slips Zaldron $50) When You encounted 3 marines and Sniped the middle marine. The Two Buddies Don't Flinch an eyelid. Hopefully RTCW will live upto it's promo and have Enemies that will react and hunt yo azz down. Add This To Doom 3. All I could come up with is this: DOOM3 + Levels + RTCW + A.I = SWEET ASS! [u]REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY SWEET ASS! [u] 0 Share this post Link to post
