bob the hellspawn Posted August 6, 2006 What control setup do all you guys use on like ZDaemon, Skulltag, etc etc etc? Arrow keys for moving, ctrl for fire, spacebar for use, / to jump, or WSAD to move, mouse1 to fire, mouse to look around, e to use and space to jump? 0 Share this post Link to post
leileilol Posted August 6, 2006 i actually use the default standard doom controls that i grew up with 0 Share this post Link to post
LordK Posted August 6, 2006 WSAD + mouse for moving, turning and firing. I press and hold mouse2 to activate mouselook (I don't use mlook all the time). Q is use and E is jump. Space would be better for jumping, but I don't jump much in Doom and I'm too lazy to learn a new setup. 0 Share this post Link to post
Coopersville Posted August 6, 2006 Arrow keys - run and strafe Mouse - look Mouse 1 - fire Numpad 0 - activate Mouse wheel - scroll weapons I'll use right ctrl to jump in ZDoom, if I ever do. 0 Share this post Link to post
Grazza Posted August 6, 2006 WASD for movement (A and D are strafe left/right) Mouse for turning (sensitivity ~ 50) Ctrl for turn left (only used for strafe-50) Alt for turn right (only used for strafe-50) Space for Use Left mouse button for Fire Right mouse button for Strafe On (only used for strafe-50) 1-7 keys for weapon changes Autorun on (via joyb_speed 29 for vanilla exes) Vertical mouse movement disabled Though this is with "etc", as I hardly ever use Zdoom or Edge. 0 Share this post Link to post
LexiMax Posted August 6, 2006 WASD - You know... E - Use 1-7 - Normal weapon binds Q - Shortcut to Plasma R - Shortcut to BFG Enter - Say \ - Say_Team Z - Screenshot Mouse1 - Shoot Mouse2 - Strafe On Mouse3 - UD ON TOP!!! or JACK BAUER SON!!! 0 Share this post Link to post
Ismaele Posted August 6, 2006 Arrow keys for moving and turning; A D for strafing left and right; Ctrl for firing; space for jumping; Enter for using; PgUp and PgDn for looking, Home for centering look, but I often use mouse; Ins and Canc for swimming/flying up and down; Tab for map. 0 Share this post Link to post
Donce Posted August 7, 2006 Grazza said:Autorun on (via joyb_speed 29 for vanilla exes) AFAIK, 27 works for Heretic. Can't remember if it's compatible with Doom exes 0 Share this post Link to post
Hobbs Posted August 7, 2006 Recently I lost the ability to use my touchpad, and as a left hander it has been difficult finding a control set thats comfortable. Before that I used the default doom controls, except for a swap of the turn and strafe keys. Currently: IJKL - Movement, including strafing. Space - Use Ctrl - Fire 1-7 - Weapon choice <> - Supposedly turning for Sr50. Never really used. Mouse - Turning MB1 - Fire MB2 - Strafe for Sr50. Again, not really used. I also have autorun on and vertical mouse movement disabled. 0 Share this post Link to post
ultdoomer Posted August 7, 2006 Left Mouse Button - Forward Right Mouse Button - Fire Mouse itself - turning D - Backward A - Strafe Left F - Strafe Right Space Bar - Use Alt - Strafe On (never really use) 1-7 - Weapon selection For ZDoom/Legacy: W - Swim/Fly Up E- - Swim/Fly Down G - Jump V - Mouselook C - Crouch 0 Share this post Link to post
Bank Posted August 7, 2006 For ports that allow it- WASD - Movement Space - Activate E - Jump Mouse1 - Fire Mouse2 - Run Scrollwheel - Scroll Weapons I've found that if crouch is involved, I usually use either X or Z. 0 Share this post Link to post
Bashe Posted August 7, 2006 Arrows - move Use - mouse2 Fire - mouse1 Altfire (if applicable) - mouse3 Ctrl - jump Crouch (if applicable) - \ Reload - keypad 0 MDK (for zdoom) - end Mousewheel - weapons Yeah...mine's pretty weird 0 Share this post Link to post

Mordeth Posted August 7, 2006 The old default Doom setup with arrowkeys and stuff. Except when I'm playing on LAN, then I switch to WASD/mouse to avoid being laughed at. 0 Share this post Link to post
Naan Posted August 7, 2006 WASD for moving, mouse looking on the 2 axis, shoot with left click, jump with right click if the map needs jumping, space for use, Q and E to select an item, and Enter to activate it. I never get used with the original doom settings, never get used of pressing Alt to strafe, I wonder how people do to still record demos with vanilla Doom or PrBoom... 0 Share this post Link to post
myk Posted August 7, 2006 Naan said: I wonder how people do to still record demos with vanilla Doom or PrBoom... It's very easy; one doesn't need to stick to the defaults. Most people use autorun (joyb_speed 29 in the CFG; I personally don't because I prefer to keep my thumb on Space, my run key, as a point of reference, and like to be able to walk) and most movements use 4 keys of choice for movement (back, forth, right strafe, left strafe), the mouse for turning, a key for shooting, and another for opening (or both can be done with the mouse buttons). The separate strafe function combined with a turning key is used only rarely to do "sr50" to run very fast on a straight line. It's really simpler than if you add jumping (where an extra key is needed) and mouselook. PrBoom is about the same, even a little bit more customizable. 0 Share this post Link to post
impClaw Posted August 8, 2006 i have a 20 kb ini file for Zdoom, so i wont mention all of them, but basically: WASD: For moving Mouse1,2,3: Fire, MDK, Bfg (For testing) Space: Jump Ctrl: Duck Tab: Score/Map (Depends, i have two ini files, one for mplayer and one for single) 1-8: Key bindings (8 = SSG) END: Quit Game DELETE: Kill yourself (lol) QPUKLOMNBVY: Different beta testing shortcuts like god and give all Keypad: ALso betatesting stuff like give health and infinitive ammo And a few more... 0 Share this post Link to post
Enjay Posted August 8, 2006 Arrow keys for movement (being a left-hander WASD is on the wrong side of the keyboard). Up = forward Down=back Left/Right=strafe left right. MLook on, inverted. Primary mouse button = fire Secondary = secondary fire Mousewheel up/down next/prev weapon Mousewheel button = jump Mousebutton4 (on the side) = use Ctrl (beside the arrows)=crouch Backspace = 180 turn All other controls at default. 0 Share this post Link to post

caco_killer Posted August 11, 2006 I do the WASD thing. Once I started using the mouse in shooters, it was impossible to go back to keyboard aiming. Mouse aiming is simply much more precise. 0 Share this post Link to post

Iori Branford Posted August 14, 2006 In classic ports like Chocolate Doom, PrBoom, and Eternity, it's default keys + mouse. ("Classic ports" all retain certain qualities of vanilla Doom that discourage modern play styles, from hardcoded 35fps cap to slow or nonexistant hi-res display modes, but the main quality they all share is hardcoded autoaim.) In everything else ("modern ports") it's WSAD + mouselook just like any of today's FPSes. If I choose keyboard only for whatever reason, it's System Shock 1 style: SXZC to move and AD to look. 0 Share this post Link to post
