Damien_Solta Posted September 25, 2006 I am wondering... If DooM's source was released GNU (Linux Source) Has anyone made the old linux source into a MS-DOS (Just the Source Not a Port Per Say) other than Vinella DOOM? 0 Share this post Link to post
myk Posted September 25, 2006 Some early source endeavors were for DOS, such as DOSDoom and Boom. DOSDoom was pretty close to a straight port up to version 0.47. I'm not sure if its ealier versions that still remain pretty faithful to the base code are obtainable. As shown here, the source as released can be built on DOS without much work (he made it the same day it was released), if you leave aside sound, music and perhaps networking. Supposedly that's what you're looking for (then the source itself should suffice). 0 Share this post Link to post
Quasar Posted September 25, 2006 I should probably mention the fact that this package might still be under the old DOOM EULA. If so, you can relicense it as GPL because both Carmack and Chi Hoang have given permission for their work to be relicensed as such (the latter's permission was obtained during the BOOM conversion to GPL by necessity). 0 Share this post Link to post
Damien_Solta Posted September 25, 2006 The new Code? The (withought sound library's If the way I've been reading this is right) MS-DOS Source Code hasn't been GNU Lisenced Already? 0 Share this post Link to post
myk Posted September 25, 2006 Damien_Solta said: The new Code? He means that the dosdoom.patch that's in the ZIP depends on the DOOM license, though if you use it as a base for a new project you can release it under the GPL, since both John Carmack and Chi Hoang gave the okay for that. 0 Share this post Link to post
Quasar Posted September 25, 2006 The patch probably won't work on the GPL version of the DOOM code because of the header changes, so I figured it was important to mention. 0 Share this post Link to post
