RevHate Posted November 14, 2006 I'm curious to know if it's at all possible to insert AutoCad files (.dwg, .dwf, ect.) into any Doom editors. I have Cad files of some cool stuff and I'd like to put them in Doom. 0 Share this post Link to post
Kid Airbag Posted November 15, 2006 I'd doubt it, because Doom uses specific sector and linedef/sidedef attributes to determine what the level is going to look like and how it's going to play, which probably aren't in any cad program. 0 Share this post Link to post
Koko Ricky Posted November 15, 2006 Even in Vavoom, which (apparently) supports full polygonal constructs, it'd be like trying to import a Photoshop file into MS Paint, or trying to open a Rise of the Triad map in a Wolfenstein 3-D editor. They're similar, but not compatible. 0 Share this post Link to post
RevHate Posted November 15, 2006 thanks, i was just curious, my friend wanted to build some "real-world" kind of stuff, so i thought i might be able to take some survey data of some properties and maybe import just the linework or something then edit wall heights and what-not later on 0 Share this post Link to post
myk Posted November 15, 2006 What about this? Unfortunately it seems to be in source only, so unless your friend is a coder it might be useless, if it's not obsolete anyway. 0 Share this post Link to post
Grazza Posted November 15, 2006 Apparently it was used to make Ars Electronica, so it looks like it must work reasonably well. I see that it is still mentioned on Reini Urban's projects page, though some of the links are broken. Still, it might be a useful source of further information. 0 Share this post Link to post
funduke Posted November 15, 2006 Check this out: http://cd.textfiles.com/svdiamond/CDR18/DXF2WA.ZIP Quote from the textfile:DXF2WAD v1.0 January 1995 DXF2WAD is a simple program to read entities of type LINE, ARC, and CIRCLE from a DXF file and create the appropriate vertices and linedefs in a wad file. CIRCLEs and ARCs are converted to polygon/polygon segments. Supports level formats for Doom, Doom II, and Heretic. There is a bug in the CIRCLE/ARC to polygon function that causes it to improperly handle arcs starting and ending at certain angles, but it should work in most cases. For best results, use a radius greater than 64. Greetings Funduke 0 Share this post Link to post
