Bungleist Posted November 27, 2006 caco_killer said:Well, Mr.Know-it-all, why don't you try doing it that fast, then? It seems like it's not a hard thing for you to do. You don't need to be a know-it-all to remember roughly how long various different games took you to complete. Those are relatively trivial and extremely simple facts which hardly require a genius level IQ to work out or remember. Nor do you need to be a know-it-all to realise that if takes an average player longer to complete game A) than it does game B), then logically speaking it will most likely also take a speed runner longer to complete game A) than it does game B). Anyway, nowhere did I say I'm a speed runner; in fact, I really don't see the point in playing that way. But when an average player can complete a game in less than a day on their first attempt, there's something very wrong. After all, how long did it take us to complete Doom 1 on our very first play through? The problem is that there is far more pressure on modern developers to A) get the game done on time, B) make sure it has pretty graphics, and C) make sure it appeals to the mainstream gamer (the sort who only plays games for at most a couple of hours per day). All these factors mean that non-linearity and large, varied levels are (amongst other things, such as original ideas) becoming increasingly rare in the FPS genre. 0 Share this post Link to post

You're changing the subject, and insulting my intelligence. Why don't you answer my fucking question and stop spitting out your bullshit? 0 Share this post Link to post
AirRaid Posted November 27, 2006 Bungleist said:There's a big difference between how fast a game can be beaten and the length of time it takes you on the first attempt. I would expect that the games I listed as short could be beaten in at least half that time, if not a third. Sure, of course. I was pointing out that Half-Life 1 can be beaten just as quickly, relatively speaking as he is claiming HL2 can be. And I still hold that neither HL or HL2 are 'short' games. Nor would I say FEAR was, but I played that on and off over a long period so my view on that maybe distorted. 0 Share this post Link to post
Rotting Corpse Posted November 27, 2006 If you like fps like the Battle Field games and some what like Wolf:Et then War Rock is worth downloading. It is still a beta but the only problems I have found have been very minor. This is the game I started playing when BF2 truned into crap. Also Unreal Tournament 2004 is still going strong and has a lot of players. So if you dont have it I bet you could pick it up for $20 or less. 0 Share this post Link to post

Actually, I think you'll find it was you who changed the subject; not once did anyone make any mention of me being a know-it-all, nor did I ever claim I personally could beat short FPS' in 22.5 minutes or under... yet you brought up both of these previously unmentioned topics. All I did was try go back to the *original* subject of the post you replied to. I also politely attempted to ignore the rather childish tantrum you were (and apparently still are) throwing. You're insulting your own intelligence anyway, because I quite clearly *did* answer your question: bungleist said:Anyway, nowhere did I say I'm a speed runner; in fact, I really don't see the point in playing that way. Also, you're complaining that I'm insulting your intelligence whilst at the same time calling me a know-it-all and accusing me of spitting out bullshit? Stop being such a obnoxious hypocrite. 0 Share this post Link to post

Yeah, multiplayer FPS' obviously have an indefinite lifespan, which is good. Unfortunately, I never seem able to get into them. Usually I either end up constantly dying because almost everyone is more skilled than me, or the game seems full of immature kiddies who speak in leet speek and/or constantly swear and/or accuse anyone who beats them of cheating, or the server admins are too overzealous and regularly ban people for no real reason. There's always LAN, though. Plus a pub near me as started having a weekly games night :). 0 Share this post Link to post
TawmDee Posted November 27, 2006 War Rock was a huge lag fest for me like pretty much every Korean run game. Best game ever in 2006 is Guitar Hero 2 for sure, even though it's for console. I don't care GO GEDDIT 0 Share this post Link to post
