kevingpo Posted November 19, 2006 I just noticed that to play Doom1 or 2 online (eg. with ZDaemon) the client needs to have exactly the same file/checksum doom2.wad as the server. I then notice that there's updates (1.666, 1.9, etc). How does one know what current version is their doom2.wad file? Is there any utility to find out? 0 Share this post Link to post
Maes Posted November 19, 2006 Get patches and the tool IWadVerifier from oldDoom.com. However, it's better to just upgrade your IWADs (both DOOM and DOOM II) to 1.9 and stick to them. PLUTONIA.WAD and TNT.WAD will also work as valid v1.9 DOOM II IWADs, only some textures may appear different. Don't bother with older IWADS especially DOOM II v1.666, for there are many subversions of those. Also...in general having an older IWAD doesn't have much of an effect, unless you're using e.g. the DOOM 1.1 WAD which doesn't have the IFOG sprite... 0 Share this post Link to post

RjY Posted November 19, 2006 If I were doing this I would calculate its md5sum and then look for the result in Fraggle's list of md5sums or various pages on the Doom wiki. I imagine IWadVerifier automates this process 0 Share this post Link to post
