Shapeless Posted December 31, 2006 Here it is sculpted in regular sculpey mixes with some brown classic Fimo. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v96/Nataniel/IMG_2382.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v96/Nataniel/IMG_2383.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v96/Nataniel/IMG_2380.jpg I wanted to make this as accurate to the sprite as possable, but I have already failed for 2 reasons. first it was impossable cause the game sprite changes physical apperence from angle to angle. The second is I just don't care how many bumps are on it's back, cause there's alot cooler things I could be sculpting then a pain elemental. like a pinky or a baron. what you see is already hard/cured. I sculpt in layers. 0 Share this post Link to post
Vegeta Posted December 31, 2006 Looks sweet, keep it up! BTW, I don't see his arms, is that intentional? 0 Share this post Link to post
Shapeless Posted December 31, 2006 I have to add his arms and horns :) 0 Share this post Link to post
Koko Ricky Posted January 2, 2007 Love the bumps on the back. Overall, it's extremely accurate. Can't wait to see it painted. 0 Share this post Link to post
Inferno Posted January 2, 2007 Wow very nice work! Very accurate to the game sprite. I like the work on the teeth especially, but the bumps are very well done too. Looking foward to your finished result, keep it up! 0 Share this post Link to post
Shapeless Posted January 2, 2007 thanks for the kind words. I'm almost done the body. it's mostly patching it up with epoxie putty, sanding and spraying with primer. I've been working on it today and it's looking alot better and smoother. can't wait to start the horns and arm's. glad your digging the back :D 0 Share this post Link to post
Vader Posted January 2, 2007 Wow, that looks extremly great! I guess you took a look at the game sprites while you were sculpting, because it looks very accurate. I really need to improve my skills in this area... mind to explain a bit, how this sculpting in layers work? Do you have any other tips/hints? Generally I just take a block of the sculpting-mass and roughly bring it into the needed shape. After that I add/substract little pieces of it, to make the details... anyway, keep up the great work! 0 Share this post Link to post
Shapeless Posted January 2, 2007 sculpting in layers works with certain mediums like polymer clay, shich is what I'm using. first I made an armature http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v96/Nataniel/IMG_2127.jpg then I made a ball of alluminum foil and wraped it tightly with wire. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v96/Nataniel/IMG_2128.jpg then I wraped that with sculpey, made some gruves and holes and baked it in the oven. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v96/Nataniel/IMG_2133.jpg then I rubbed very little vasaline on so that the raw sculpey would stick to the cured clay.(make sure you rub most of it off) and started sculpting the front half of the pain elemental. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v96/Nataniel/IMG_2281.jpg then I baked that so I don't mess up my work as I work on the back. I also added more foil to the back. cause originally this was going to be a bust of the chaingunner. 0 Share this post Link to post
EarthQuake Posted January 2, 2007 Nice work. I've never seen a model or sculpture of a pain elemental before. Can't wait to see it when it's done. :) 0 Share this post Link to post
Shapeless Posted January 3, 2007 hay what's up earthquake glad you like what I'm doing. reaper miniatures made a pain elemental that's supperior to mine http://okapi.andrew.cmu.edu/lerchey/www/doom.html but I'm just trying to mimic the game sprite for nastalgic perposes. 0 Share this post Link to post
MmM Posted January 4, 2007 Looks awsome! You should have made it hollow so that you could pop the Lost Soul you made awhile back inside his mouth. 0 Share this post Link to post
Vader Posted January 7, 2007 Thanks for the info on your modelling process Shapeless :D 0 Share this post Link to post
Shapeless Posted January 8, 2007 MmM that lost soul is not in scale with the pain elemental plus it has a different style. The pain elemental is more a replica of the sprite. Vader your welcome and here's what I did next. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v96/Nataniel/IMG_2390.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v96/Nataniel/IMG_2387.jpg that off white colored material is Aves Apoxie sculpt. it is highly adhesive stuff. And I'm using it to fill in little receses and finish sculpting the back of the pain elemental. I may use it do the intire horns. 0 Share this post Link to post
Inferno Posted January 8, 2007 Can't wait to see what it's going to look like once the arms and horns are on. 0 Share this post Link to post
Xaechireon Posted March 11, 2007 It looks really cool. When are the arms gonna be done? 0 Share this post Link to post
Shapeless Posted March 25, 2007 sorry for the late responce. here's a new pic. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v96/Nataniel/IMG_2393.jpg it's evolved since that pic which is a bit old now, but my computer has been cut off from the internet for awhile. anyway I've started working on the horns. :) 0 Share this post Link to post
MmM Posted March 27, 2007 It's looking better than ever, but I would have thought you'd have it finished by now. It shouldn't take long to make a couple of horns and arms . . . 0 Share this post Link to post
Inferno Posted March 28, 2007 Wow it looks extremely cool so far. Been a little while since the last update, but its all good ; ) 0 Share this post Link to post
Shapeless Posted August 8, 2007 Ok here it is again. I've primed it to make it a uniform color. The horns are now super-sculpey and it's arms are Aves Apoxie sculpt. I actually have it further along then this at the moment. The right horn is now all fleshed out and needs tweeking before I bake. and the other arm not visable in this pic is half done. but is a piece of cake. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v96/Nataniel/IMG_2492.jpg 0 Share this post Link to post
OrinCreed Posted August 9, 2007 That is top. Looks very well done and could pass as a prototype for a action figure. I can't wait to see it done. 0 Share this post Link to post
Larzuk Posted August 9, 2007 That looks really good. Id say its close enough to the original sprite. I tried looking at that link you put here with the doom minatures. It had a link to buy them but I couldnt find it anywhere.. 0 Share this post Link to post
Colusio Posted August 9, 2007 As you brought it up, reaper has some splendid models. Except, the imp, the revenant and the archvile. The archvile is over the top. (fingers) I can't recognize the imp. It's a different monster he made. His revenant misses character. Your pain elemental is great but I thought it looked like a cacodemon. So I checked it and realized the big difference (for me) is the larger mouth and the curves(ignoring texturing). I looked so many times at those monsters but never saw, I realize. 0 Share this post Link to post

CGC002 Posted August 9, 2007 That's awesome. Really accurate, looks kinda like a model that iD used in DOOM to create sprites. 0 Share this post Link to post
MmM Posted August 10, 2007 Looking better than ever! I just wish you worked faster. :) 0 Share this post Link to post
Inferno Posted August 10, 2007 Wow it's been a while, but its a good wait. Looks incredible! It's going to look perfect when its done. 0 Share this post Link to post
