best movie of 2006

Recommended Posts

I was going to make a poll, but I decided I'd rather leave it more open.

I'm unable to choose between The Fountain or The Departed, but for me it's one of those.

The only movie I saw this year was Casino Royale. However, I really liked it, as it reversed the slide of Bond films into little more than parodies.

I'll vote Nói albínói. While it's technically from 2003, it was showcased on the big screen here late last year, so that counts for me.

Ordinarily I wouldn't remember, but I've been rating everything I watch on IMDb lately. But it looks like Death of a President and Idiocracy are at the top of my list so far. Little Miss Sunshine was pretty good as well. I guess I haven't seen anything too astounding from 2006 yet. I think I'm going to watch Children of Men soon, so we'll see how that is.

I just saw this last weekend. I really enjoyed it. Some of the scenes are so gripping, and some of the sets, mainly from the last 40 minutes or so, are amazing.

Yeah, I agree.

hmmm, I don't think I watched a single movie from 2006.

Same here. Except when flying, when I presume I unavoidably saw some bits and pieces on other people's screens, but I don't think that counts.

*meh*

I guess Casino Royal. I was well made and well written I suppose, but it just didn't hit my awesome button.

most disappointing movie was probably X men 3.

as for Snakes on a plane... heh. it was worth seeing, but i'm pissed that the kick boxing guy only punched like one snake. I was sure I was going to see lots of snake fistycuffs! Also, not very rewatchable.

Superman Returns was well done, and X-MEN 3 was fun. Can't think of many movies I watched last year at the moment, but those two come to mind.

Renaissance, a typical "Sweeney" episode relocated to the future and filtered through typically french artiness, how can you go wrong?

Agreed. The film was a pile of crap if you've read the comics.

A completely subjective opinion considering:

A) The comic was written in the 1980s and

B) One of my friends and lot of his other friends read the comic back in the day, saw the movie, and loved it.

Yeah, I enjoyed the movie for what it was, and I enjoyed the book too.

Borat, Snakes On a Plane, Jackass: Number 2, and Clerks II get my vote for funniest, but certainly not the best. I thought Superman Returns was very lackluster, and X3 could have been better. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest was surprisingly enjoyable. I have yet to see The Fountain, The Departed, Children of Men, and The Pursuit of Happyness. Other than that, I've seen Talladega Nights, Nacho Libre, and Underworld: Evolution, which are worth watching, but nothing special.

Borat was overrated. it had nothing on Clerks II. the biggest laugh of 2006 for me was Randal's description of the Lord Of The Rings trilogy... I almost fell out of my seat in the theater when the LOTR geek puked.

Pirates 2 was great, X-Men 3 was good except for them making Phoenix too powerful (thus greatly cutting down on the excitement) and TOTALLY SCREWING UP JUGGERNAUT. the scene where he yells out "I'm the Juggernaut, bitch!" made me cringe. Absolutely retarded.

Superman Returns captured the essence of Superman better than any movie since the original, and it looked absolutely great. You can't beat Kevin Spacey as Lex Luthor.

Someone should start a thread for worst movie of 2006 too... my votes are Lady In The Water and Basic Instinct 2.

Aren't all opinions completely subjective? I know it isn't true for everyone, since some people can disconnect a work from its derivative and judge it independently. But why should I? The film just lifts the basic outline of the comics and then proceeds to butcher them. Anyone who understood them knows that the film misses the point entirely. Read Alan Moore's comments on the film.
