Compo Idea...

Recommended Posts

I have a nice little idea for a compo and i would like to know your oppinions.
What about a Doom Movie compo where we all create a short (~15 minute) movie WAD.

Rules for discusion:
Maximum WAD size: 2 to 4 MiByte
Engine: Anyone that can be scripted
Content: No porn, everything else should be ok.
Deadline: Dunno, 3 months?

Maybe this could even be some official compo for DW with prices from sponsors?

rofl.

DW was once lucky enough to have a contest with some real prizes involved.

If anything, this should be something you yourself should organize. No prizes, it should be just for fun.

Yeah, basically he wants to make Doom machinama. Not a bad idea, but coming from this clown it just sounds like a waste of time.

EDIT : I can't script. I can't map (yet) but I can sure as hell write a good script that would make a neat Doom machinama, so if anyone actually wants to do one and doesn't really have or want to think up an idea, just ask me.

Nothing could beat "Imp Encounter", you have action, suspense, laughs, and sex, how could you beat that?

Um, yeah.... and why am i supposed to be a clown?
For my bad English?
Because i have been "loosered" for being a furry?
Its a nice idea to have some compos, most times it produces quality material and people tend to have fun matching up against others.
So, where am i the clown here?

We should better start to discuss the rule framework for this one ;)

@Vegeta:
Um, yeah, its a porn movie made for zDoom.

For my own movie i thought about some WoD:ApocalypseNeverHappend:2033-thingaboo. :)

Whilst it sounds like a really good idea I fear that there just aint enough people with the skills to do it. I bet there would be less than 5 entries.

I have been thinking of holding a series of competitions and games for prizes here on Doomworld. Would people be interested in donating money to buy things... and what things would make good prizes for a "Doom" world?

If there is any interest I may blog more on this and actually go ahead if there is enough support.

@Scuba:
I would donate some spare Euros for some compos *g*
But it would be better to find some real sponsors, at least for those big compos.
Otherwise, what about Hissy as a price?

Right, high profile companies are just lining up to be part of an unofficial, 12 year old game advertising campaign and competition.

Well Bastet (I just realized, after 5 years, it's not Basset) If we could get some sponsors that woudl be great, I just don't see many people chomping at the bit to donate to some community competitions. But cool if they will...

...posting a blog about this to talk about it more...

Not bad; took me 4 years to realize it's Furry, not Fury.

I thought it was Bastard Fury for awhile when I first saw his name.

Haha, wow. I read it as Basket Fury for the longest time.

On topic, while Machinima is always cool, I'm not sure how much you can do within the engine, or how many people will be interested.

Furries unite, eh.

Anyway, on the note of filesize, why not just see how much as a community we can fit into 1MB, 2MB, etc... (some unreasonably small filesize for 10 maps or so) ?
