Well shit. Guys, the internet is nearly full

Recommended Posts

Before Bittorrent traffic it was pornography. There's always something that will KILL THE INTERNET OMFG.

Also:

gobble up large chunks of bandwidth and may cause the Net to crash,

How exactly will 'the net' 'crash'? Are some people still labouring under the impression that the internet is one vast machine? The worst that could happen would be that the youtube server(s) died. Which wouldn't really be a big loss.

Probably 80% of BitTorrent traffic is pornography.

So everyone is blaming the web sites utilizing the internet, and not the ISPs who have more than enough power and money to expand it?

I suppose it's just cheap to go dig up thousands of miles of fiberoptic cable to replace with newer fiberoptic cable. Right?

Well considering they were supposed to have that done a decade ago and they've just been enjoying those taxpayer dollars for the that long time before they finally did their job, all i have to say is this:

I think things'll be worse if Google dies. People will be lost and forget how it was done in the before time.

Sheesh, am I the only person left that doesn't care about bittorent?
When I first got cable internet, it was 1500/256K, 4 years later it's 6000/768, and I can't tell a difference except for the fact that the bill goes up every year. If I want a movie I'll rent it. Dial up is too slow, cable is more than I need and really want to pay for. DSL is not available. I wish I could get something like 768/128 for $15.00 USD a month. But I also believe that there is plenty of bandwidth available, but the people who don't need or want it have to help pay for all the bandwidth hogs. If you insist on heavy use of filesharing apps or downloading videos every day, then you should either pay more, so people like me can pay less, or be capped at ~30 gigs down and 10 gigs up per month.

Bandwith caps are gay. I don't want a crippled service. A flat rate is the only way to go. How can you expect them to just charge for usage, that's dumb. That'd be like getting a low TV bill if you don't watch TV that often. Doesn't make sense. Just because you don't USE it doesn't mean that you don't have the service itself. You do realize that you pay such a high bill not for bandwith costs, but to improve service and the like?

But I also believe that there is plenty of bandwidth available

Just because you believe it to be so does not make it true.

This could explain why it seems like my ISP is rerouting my connection through Bangkok... The internet is dying off like an endagered species. "...the threat to bandwidth becomes clear."

What's that? A bandwidth depletion? Time to do to that what we did to oil! Or maybe we'll just get a new levy to pay, heh. "Bandwidth Convenience Tax"

RIAA, MPAA, and BSA are against P2P technology, so seeing random, factually incorrect propaganda against it all over the place wouldn't surprise me too much.

I suppose we should use all that bandwidth to transfer DRM-encoded movies and music instead. Then they would have no problem with it!

Dunno about America, but there's tons of dark fiber out here. It doesn't solve any bandwidth problems between here and the rest of the world though.

Replacing it all with DRM-encoded music and movies would solve the problem: No one in their right mind would download them then. XD

I've said it once and I'll say it again: The internet is NOT a series of tubes! It is a DUMP TRUCK! When you attempt to access a website, the dump truck unloads all of it's contents into your computer monitor. The larger the site, the more time it takes the truck to dump it's entire load.

This is basic stuff, guys.

You also have to wait for the dump truck to go back to the place where the stuff is being made and get more. Unless a cameraman has accidentally sat on the emergency stop button and shut down the whole factory, which seems to happen in my block of flats often
