leileilol Posted March 2, 2007 YES features: - faster - video compatibility (hercules, 256-colors in windows 3.1, etc) - faster - faster - faster - faster - auto core for total idiots who think hi-end game x runs too slow on their pentium 4 2ghz because they didn't read the readme on how to configure cycles - faster - faster - it's roughly 1.88 times faster - faster 0 Share this post Link to post

These are the nine features I've been waiting for for years! I figured they were too obscure and nobody else wanted them! Now I'm especially looking forward to the end of Friday. 0 Share this post Link to post
Bucket Posted March 2, 2007 This would be super awesome if I still had my floppy drives. Ah well... off to the grey area for me. 0 Share this post Link to post
SyntherAugustus Posted March 2, 2007 I think I'm going to test this on Tyrian! ^_^ edit: Holy shit it is fap worthy. I CAN PLAY ON THE HIGHEST SETTING AND IT WORKS! (yes, wild mode not Pentium mode) 0 Share this post Link to post

Da Spadger Posted March 3, 2007 Hmm, Blood still runs slow for me, but the sound now works awesomely. That's an improvement, I guess. 0 Share this post Link to post
Infinite Ammunition Posted March 3, 2007 try poking around in the dosbox config file and setting it to use at least 32MB of RAM, that cleared up most of the choppiness in blood for me 0 Share this post Link to post

Actually, it is. doom2.exe runs much closer to the speed it once did on my Pentium MMX back in the day, whereas in previous versions it was much closer to 486 speeds. In fact, it could probably run even faster, but this was a quick test without fiddling with the configuration. And for what it's worth, users of 64-bit operating systems running in compatibility mode (e.g. XP x64, Vista, most 64-bit Linux distros) might still find a 32-bit build slightly faster. At least I did, which I attribute to dynamic translation being enabled in the 32-bit version but not in the 64-bit compile... 0 Share this post Link to post
Udderdude Posted March 3, 2007 Am I doing something wrong? When I load Doom 2 it seems to be going slower than a 386. What's the correct settings? Edit : Discovered the problem. The front-end program I was using was setting the CPU Cycles to some retardedly low setting. I'm just using DOSbox directly now and everything runs great. I can even play Blood at full speed. Awesomeness. Edit 2 : Oh god the pixels, I can see them. 0 Share this post Link to post

leileilol Posted March 3, 2007 I think it's funny after the auto-core and auto-cycles setting was made default people discover they can run their protected mode games now even though 0.63 and 0.65 already could lol 0 Share this post Link to post
AndrewB Posted March 4, 2007 Well, on my P3 laptop I can play Quake (!!) without any slowdowns so yeah it's faster. 0 Share this post Link to post
