Heh, my dad actually got me into Doom. He was really into computer games for years. Sadly, I think the last game he played was RTCW.

My dad (and brother) got me into Doom as well. I remember the glorious days of just watching them in awe, and then I finally got a chance to play myself. My brother is still a huge gamer, but he's into newer games now, and my dad doesn't play games that much anymore, although he does when he can.

As for gaming grannies: HOLY PISS, that's incredible. My maternal grandma...er...is just a waste of time. My paternal one is better, but not a gamer. :(

My maternal granny kicked the bucket decades ago. My paternal granny? She's some stupid hardcore traditional chinese (yes, I'm asian) nutcase. Because she lives in my aunt's house, she doesn't even allow my aunt's family to eat western food.
