Community Chest Series Demos [-complevel 9]

He should be able to beat at least one of Vile's times. Someone commented on youtube that MAP28 should be the easiest to beat. I don't think so, from what I remember MAP23 had some ammo management issues and the demo is not perfect. Still, it is a feat. I haven't beaten a single Vile Max demo in my life :-P

CC3 - MAP12 (Black Rain by RottKing) - UV Max in 51:38

I didn't watch it. This demo is probably useless, RottKing posted a 46:xx demo on page 3, don't know which port, but the demo is gone.

Some things to consider:
1) Megasphere secret. This one requires a nearly-impossible jump and hold sequence. I think I could try Darken2 MAP12 now, as the crate jumps there are trivial comparing to this. In this demo I spent more than 2 minutes on this jump. This is pretty good for me, really.
2) After this "success" my play is awful.
3) 761/766 kills. This is maximum according to what I checked with DB2. 4 imps and 1 cacodemon have a W1 teleport linedef in front of them, but some monsters already used that teleporter line, so they cannot be killed.

I watched the entire demo, mainly because I love that level. Granted, it is not the best for UV-max runs. :p It's a feat, if for nothing else, at least for memorizing the layout of such a vast map. I guess your next run will be CC1 map 29? =p

Thanks, man! CC MAP29? No, I didn't plan it, but I might take a look at it. If I like it, who knows, maybe there'll be a Max.

The main reason why I think so, is that map 28 has the least efficient ammo usage out of the 3 demos. In map 23, Vile's time could only be improved if he had killed the Arch-Vile at the end faster instead of letting it resurrect half of the monsters in the hallway. I also don't know the viability of skipping monsters to go for the SSG first, but the shotgun/chainsaw usage in the first part of the map doesn't seem to be all that slow. The map gives you enough ammunition towards the end, and Vile used a SSG instead of the rocket launcher (he missed a couple boxes of rockets) to dispatch the last few Barons.

Still, all of those minor issues, if corrected, would only result in maybe a 20-25 second improvement, and that's assuming Blob can tear through the rest of the map with movement and shot accuracy on par with Vile.

Map 32 requires some seriously skilled ammo management, and Vile himself in the text stated that if he used the rockets at the end more efficiently, it would have been slightly faster. However, I don't see any significant route improvements or ammo issues that arise from Vile's demo.

This brings us to map 28. First of all, I don't quite understand why he had to kill all of the lost souls in the hallways and stairs. He had to backtrack only once, and it isn't very difficult to avoid them. Ammo usage is also far from efficient (obvious). The map is extremely long however, so any minor screwups may be overlooked. On the other hand, it also leads me to think that perhaps a new route can be formulated, which is primarily why I think the time on that map can be most easily improved.

Haha, either you watched them yesterday or you have a good memory. I watched the CC2 demo pack once, a few demos 2-4 times, so I'm likely to be wrong here. Sorry Qaatar I forgot it was you saying that on YT.

I don't remember I even have ever played map28, so can't say a word about that record of his, but for map23 the current time is fantastic
I agree that improving 15 or 20 seconds from that vile's time, would be the max possible. My current biggest troubles are reaching the second half of map in one piece, and the cyberdemon area. vile let it caged among all the demons, who literally ate it up. I hardly manage to do the same, which results in ammo, time, health waste. Any time below 12 minutes is already remarkable in my opinion.

ps: hello everybody by the way ;o

I just realized I lost the patched map24.wad for cchest2, and the link on page 1 isn't working for me anymore, probably it was just a temporary upload. Would anyone be so kind to re-host it or send it to me again?

and did that patch solve every trouble of the map anyway?

edit: okay, the link was not in first page, but in the thread, sorry for the confusion eheh

These days, the patch is included with the CC2 download at the DSDA. I've pondered, at some point in the future, making a new version that fixes the unreachable crate secrets in the north (sectors 1973-5) and the teleport destination that fails to appear on Hey, Not Too Rough or lower (thing 2055,) which I believe can be done without rebuilding nodes and causing existing demos to go out of sync. For now, though, the current version will do. At the least, it lets you *gasp* exit the level, and access the northernmost secret door (normally inaccessible for the same reason as the exit.) Apart from those crates, every secret should be accessible.

Incidentally, the link wasn't temporary, and lasted until my webhost died. I'm glad Andy's hosting the file now. :)

thanks a deal for the informations!
is 100% secrets now possible? I think I read about a lower %s as max, but I'm not sure any longer

edit: just tried the patched wad but the ground texture inside some buildings is displayed as a red squared-ground with a white text "NO TEXTURE"
is that "normal"/the price to pay for the fix?

oh fabolous, I was thinking about that, but I never had tried to run 2 wads together

partly right, partly wrong!
my route makes (imho) better usage of ammo and the black portals, but its way more dangerous. the ammo left from vile near the end can only be decently used taking a diff path I guess. but time wise, I'm not so sure if its the best.
After all if vile would be lucky with infighting in last area, he'd have ended with an early 10min time

btw upping now on my you-tube page a 10:40 map23 video
have a look! *giggles

I just want to make sure, as I've checked and double checked this entire forum. The only Maxes left undone for all 3 CC's are CC3 Map 18 (ggg posted a failed demo, which I will watch for ideas) and CC1 Map 29? Just would like someone to corroborate this. Thanks!

Well...after about 7 hours of attempts, I still haven't gotten past the rocket launcher. Ironically, this attempt that I'm sharing was my 5th or 6th within one hour of starting on this map. In the 6-7 hours since then, I have not even placed my hands on that damn launcher using this route from Tatsurd's NoMo. Guess I was a bit too confident in my abilities. :)

Looks like clearing most of the monsters in the rooms before doing the jumps is probably a better idea.

This map is harder and more tedious than almost anything I've ever played, including eaxt.wad and nochance.wad. Anyways, back to some more attempts.

Yes, it is right. Actually, I did something like that. I killed two viles on the way and entered the marble room from caco's area. (The door is on the end of the aisle.) Finally, I reached the red key door, but I was killed by revenant's missles when I fought with demons. When I was doing this map, I was really tired from map 25 and map 27 which are also terrible maps for UV-Max, though they are probably much easier than this map. Therefore, I dislike continuing it completely and gave up it. I don't at all want to play it again...

I think CC3 MAP13 as well (Tyson is not obligatory here)

I think Bruno Vergilio recorded something, with similar time as my tyson.

I think I'll have a look to cc3 soon (unlikely the cc1 and 2, all maps will new map to me there) and unless there are super tedious ill try max runs in those 2 as well

your attempt in cc1-29 was very inspiring to see, but yea.. well there are so many areas where you've to remember which monsters shoots you from where, which makes for me a no-go-map

like tatsurd wrote, I'd also advice to clear all areas below the doors before trying to reach the RL, thats how I did (playing normally with saving states I mean)

btw I finally am close to finish my crusade on cc2, unsure about playing map24 (if there's something i hate, is to use fist 24/7 cus of low ammo) and map 28 which completely pissed me off 2 weeks ago

@vdgg:
you were right, I'm very happy I could beat one stx-vile, I will up the video on you-tube by the new year coming (oh no, it's not about being scenic or the likes, just need time to prepare it)
It took very long, and the time can be still improved, since I lost over 1 fucking minute waiting the last cacodemons to teleport (...) otherwise i'd have a rather excellent time (imo.)
that is my first exit with this new route I decided to try out, but honestly- After how my heartbeats skyrocketed when I was about to finish this run, I even thought of quitting speedrunning lol (not kidding D: )
so I won't retry to lower the time unless someone would beat mine first or i'd feel veeeery bored ^^'

This one is for Blob, and I hope you can push it to under 9 minutes when you get there. :D

I've included ggg's failed max in the zip, since it was a great demo, and he ALMOST made it to the end.
