Memento Mori 1
Memento Mori 2
Requiem
The Darkening Episode 1
The Darkening Episode 2
Batman DOOM

Whenever I'm bored or lazy or artistically uninspired... I just load one of those WADs, warp to a random map from 01 to 32, and play until the health drops to 0%.
And then once the marine dies I either warp to another random map or close the WAD and open another one.
'Nuff said.

Scythe 2
Suspended in Dusk
RTC-3057
Crucified Dreams (just for the architecture, heh)

I haven't played through all of Deus Vult II yet, but it definitely looks like it could make this list. :)

I started compiling a list then thought - go here - select 25 or more votes and see what comes up.
Besides - my favourites list probably contains too many `95 wads.

There are still way too many famous wads that I've never tried yet (I'm slowly working through Doomworld's "100 best wads" and the more recent Cacoward winners), so any list I can make leaves out far too many wads that deserve to be on it. There's so much content out there that I never even play a wad twice, and that's true for my favourites too.

The wads that have already been mentioned that really impressed me are:
Scythe 2
Batman Doom
Alien Vendetta

Other awesome wads (My tastes are somewhat eclectic):
Espi's Back to Basics
Null Space
Cyb's Void
Hellcore 2.0
KDiZD
UTnT
The Sky May Be!

I don't actually like Hell Revealed, but I respect those who do.

As a special note, I'm a HUGE fan of everything BPRD has ever made (ie. Equinox, Grove, the famous Nuts series, "Mucus Flow" from some community pack, others I don't remember). His architecture is too big, the gameplay of his levels is bizarre when it's not impossible, yet somehow it comes together and creates an amazing experience.

Well I've always been a big fan of megawads and episodes as you'd expect.

My fave 10

* 1 Scythe (I think its better than Sycthe 2 due to the more retro look)
* 2 AV (Awesome, some amazing levels in here)
* 3 Scythe 2 (An exceptional piece of work)
* 4 Memento Mori 2 (One of the first megawads I played, Brilliant)
* 5 Eternal Doom (The sheer size of these maps blew me away)
* 6 Requiem (Brilliant and Inspirational)
* 7 Community Chest 2 (The best of the 3 CChest's)
* 8 Community Chest 3 (Not far behind CC2)
* 9 Deus Vult (An amazing piece of work)
* 10 The Darkening Episode 2 (Beautiful levels, tough challenge)

Other good ones.

* The Darkening Episode 1
* Void
* Simplicity
* Community Chest 1
* KDiZD
* 10 Sectors
* Vrack 3
* Doom2 Master Levels
* Fava Beans
* Icarus
* MassMouth 2
* Memento Mori 1
* CH_Retro
* Wonderful Doom

My favourite jokewad is Mock 2: The Speed of Stupid. Very funny stuff here.

I favour most of the singleplayer wads by NiGHTMARE, Jan Van der Veken and Richard Wiles. Perhaps because they were made in the middle age, along with Quake and before ports, they're so balanced.

I can't say I prefer any particular Doom 2 megawad. The single-file 32 map block is too large to offer them a nice replay value, as I often prefer to jump directly to a particular level, cancelling the continuity enjoyment. On the other hand, 9-level episodes are short enough to let me hope I can reach the boss within the day. But 32 is too much for a deathless trip.

Hate choosing ONE WAD...so I'll do a Top 10 grouping instead...in no particular order:

1. Scythe/Scythe 2
2. Hell Revealed/HR2
3. Alien Vendetta
4. Memento Mori/MM2
5. KDiZD
6. Requium
7. Eternal Doom
8. Community Chest Series
9. Cyberdreams
10. probably put DVII after I finished DL'ing it...

BTW...does anyone happen to have the original DV...can't find the file anymore and a friend ov mine lost it all to a HD crash...

i can't get 3057hub1.WAD (RTC 3057 hub1) to work with zdoom!

i get the message:
Tried to register class 'Pistol' more than once.

i use Zdoom 2.2.0

steuntron, you should search the forum because that is a very very common problem asked often. anyway, here is the fix from Graf Zahl:

"The WAD has a minor incompatibility with newer ZDooms.
You have 2 choices:

1) play with ZDoom 2.0.63a (if you can find it)
2) fix the problem. For that get a WAD editor like XWE or SlumpEd, find a lump called DECORATE and search for the word 'pistol' in it. Now rename this single word into pistol1 and it will work properly."

I'm so glad I'm not the only one in this thread who doesn't appreciate a healthy dose of ACTION!
