Nemark Posted May 19, 2008 "Tricks of the Doom Programming Gurus" or "3D Game Alchemy"? I ask this because I've heard that the Alchemy book is just a reissue of the Guru book but there's over 100 pages missing. Also, are there any differences between the CDs that come with the books as well? 0 Share this post Link to post
Creaphis Posted May 19, 2008 http://drsleep.newdoom.com/data/doombuilderguide.pdf Seriously though, there's too much online information on Doom editing and too many new vanilla hacks and source port features for those guides to be much use - unless you want them for a collection. 0 Share this post Link to post
Bloodshedder Posted May 19, 2008 I'm betting they're both old and incredibly outdated. Don't bother with either. 0 Share this post Link to post
Nemark Posted May 19, 2008 I basically just want them for a collection and the CDs they come with. 0 Share this post Link to post
Creaphis Posted May 19, 2008 According to this thread... http://www.doomworld.com/vb/doom-general/43201-doom-heaven/ ...c.imp could probably send you the data on both those disks. For hard copies, I guess ebay? But again, the actual contents of the books would be useless. Unless you really want some documentation on using DEU. 0 Share this post Link to post
Nemark Posted May 19, 2008 I know where to find them. I just wanna know if there's any major differences between the two. Is the Alchemy book a reissue of the Guru book? Or are they completely different books? 0 Share this post Link to post
GreyGhost Posted May 19, 2008 Both books are authored by Steve Bemmer so a certain ammount of copy/paste is to be expected in 3D Game Alchemy. An extra 110 pages has been added to the main chapter "Creating Your Own Doom" - much of which probably relates to Hexen. The newer books smaller size is the result of trimming 210 pages from the chapter that explains how to use the editing tools. 0 Share this post Link to post

All those pages did was basically copy text from the help files that came with the applications anyway. So they weren't very useful. Anyway, I can't really answer the original question, as I only have Tricks of the Doom Programming Gurus. 0 Share this post Link to post
