Sorry I'll try to make it more obvious and linear next time.

I didn't want you to make it more obvious and linear, just less silly. Confusing maps can be fun, but it doesn't make much sense to have structures that look exactly like doors but aren't, and to have walk triggers that open up an important door on the opposite side of the map.

Actually, it's a pretty common practice to have fake doors in maps as a mean to present the world as bigger than what you've got access to.
Of course, it's not as common practice in maps such as the one in this case, where the design is more abstract.

I have to agree about the doors, like in a city type map buildings without doors just look like the mapper was lazy.

Im actually working on one where the design needs you to run around trying to find doors that open. Just like when someone is being chased in a movie, makes sense to me anyway.

"Actually, it's a pretty common practice to have fake doors in maps as a mean to present the world as bigger than what you've got access to."

This is what I was doing. And it was inside in a somewhat short maze, so the purpose WAS to make it confusing. And as far as triggers opening doors across the map, this only happens once, and the door it opens is not "on the other side of the map". And until you go through that door, there are few areas you have access to, so it isn't that difficult to find it. Why do these reviews have to have such negative vibes to them? I thought this turned out pretty decent, why does it have to be "you wont miss much".

What about entrance "doors", then?

While I'm at it, why don't I go overboard and say AD2 is like The Godfather Part II to Part I, The Empire Strikes Back to Star Wars, Terminator 2 to The Terminator, and The Dark Knight to Batman Begins.

Really, the most appropriate comparison would be that AD2 is the temple of doom to raiders, since it's a prequel and all.

I'm glad everyone enjoyed ad2. It was a fun "secret" and a fantastic project to voice for.

I am of course available for hire on other quality, high-calibre mods and games (Doom based or otherwise).

You mean the little silver ones that have been in Doom maps since the dawn of time? Yeah, what about those? If anyone who has ever played Doom gets confused about those doors then they should never touch the game again.

As a person who has used false doors in various maps, I make sure to only use them in places the player can't actually reach so they won't be confused as a real door. In a maze style level I would agree that false doors would be a nuisance.

That's just how we roll in Doomworld. :P
You're always gonna get one reviewer who's like that. The best you can do is shrug it off and move on.

Sorry about the final wad in my review. I had about 5 hours left before the deadline for review, and in my deep ignorance and stupidity I paniced and just copied and pasted the error report. :\

As for AD2... I just noticed that Scuba Steve walks the same way as the hookers. Is there something about Steve that I haven't noticed yet? :\

You mean that, just like old beat em ups, half the enemies are just edits/recolours of other enemies?

A point remains that, out of all the sprites you could have recoloured, you used those...

There are some new monsters here, including some kind of creepy shadow imp, some really annoying bats and dragon things (note to mappers: never use these little fuckers in your maps), some imps in armor that summon aforementioned bats and dragon things, imps with green ties, some asshole stealth monsters, etc. All have been used before, but at least they added some variety (except for the bats/dragons and stealth monsters). The final boss is apparently some form of D'Sparil, then a Maulotar. I've never played Heretic, and no one ever told me how AWESOME the Maulotar is. Freakin' hard too, but really epic.

Wills, do yourself a favor a play Heretic and then Eriance's Demon Eclipse (which is for Doom 2 BTW). Also, take a look at Torm's Doom Beastiary (sic).

The Maulotaur is relatively wimpy, when used in boss levels Raven Software put a flock of them. But the Hellforge Hellsmith or Apprentice (not sure which is used there), which Eriance based on the Maulotaur, are really tough.

Just finished 3 reviews. I'll do another one once the last 2 are approved. I gotta say, I enjoy this. Good practice for English 101 :D.

Do they actually look like a 404 message in-game too?

Indeed they do! That's part of what makes them so challenging. I mean, think about it; the mechanics of fighting an error message are totally crazy!

JK... ;-P

That's kinda random that that link would break. Hmm... well, I can just as well replace it with a different one. The link above now refers to something useful.

Quote it again. :) It seems Death-Destiny has fixed it.

Awesome though it was, there were things that bugged me about AD1 and prevented me from enjoying it as much as I should have, but so far AD2 is just pure bliss.

Action Doom 2 doubles the action, doubles the fun, doubles the amount of boobs, but cuts the difficulty in half. :P

That's all it took for me to remember that anthro rabbit poster in Action Doom 1.

I have a pornographic memory.

I don't really think so. I found it harder than AD on Contra.

allow me to hijack this thread to say that XXXI CyberSky maybe one of my favorite wads ever.

Tons of replay value.
