suicidal pencil Posted September 26, 2008 I've been mapping for a while now, but I've only ever messed with maps, never monsters. I was wondering if there are any tutorials about how to create a monster from the ground up. I've massacred the ZDoom wiki trying to find one, but failed. Anyone? 0 Share this post Link to post
Spleen Posted September 26, 2008 Umm, right here? Just read about the various flags, properties, and states in the wiki and put in what you want. 0 Share this post Link to post

From the ground up involves two stages: 1. create new sprites 2. create the DECORATE for the monster characteristics Eriance made a nice tutorial http://forum.zdoom.org/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=13992&p=284700&hilit=tutorial#p284700 Check the Beastiary for some inspiration http://www.realm667.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=blogcategory&id=38&Itemid=105 Also, on the ZDoom wiki click on Index under Room 101 0 Share this post Link to post

Also, if anyone knows of a document explaining DECORATE, than that would be helpful. I've looked at the DECORATE examples on the wiki, but It doesn't quite explain enough. 0 Share this post Link to post
GreyGhost Posted September 26, 2008 What parts of those examples require clarification? 0 Share this post Link to post
swordgrunt Posted September 26, 2008 Actually there's a DECORATE Editor, DecEditSharp. I've tried it and it's great. It will write the DECORATE code according to the settings you defined. 0 Share this post Link to post

suicidal pencil Posted September 27, 2008 DecEdit is a neat tool. Thanks. What parts of those examples require clarification? mostly, how everything contributes to everything, and how I can twist and abuse the code for maximum efficiency. 0 Share this post Link to post
swordgrunt Posted September 27, 2008 I never understood DECORATE looking at the ZDoom wiki. Actually, I didn't even know it was a lump at first :P but that editor helped me a lot. 0 Share this post Link to post
