The Empty Museum

Do you like Doom? Do you like strange museums that make no sense? If so, you might be interested in this project; or you might hate it. Of course even if you don't like those two things you may like this regardless. I don't know, it's not like I can read minds.

Note: Some stuff may change upon release

There's also a wiki page about it which shows progress, then again that's pretty much the point of this thread. But the wiki has numbers and stuff so it looks more professional or something: http://zdoom.org/wiki/The_Empty_Museum

Good point, I just noticed this after I posted the shot.

It's been in progress for some time, so I would say it's about 20% done just because it needs some core elements to be added (of course some are nearly done). You can always check the wiki page since that lists pretty much everything there is to do, but obviously I can't update it with new shots so that is what I shall do here.

80% is still a lot left to do...

EDIT: because of which, it may still take at least a big fraction of a year to see this released.
EDIT2: that sky floor continues to bug me. Again I may say that it either is:
(1) a harmless glass-floor,
(2) Quake 3 style void (vacuum),
(3) a standard harmful field-floor dealing 20% damage
(4) or a level exit?

EDIT3: When will monsters come up? More than the stock Doom 2 cast will fit better in that background.

I never said it was anywhere near done (or if I did please point it out so I can change it), and we would be lucky to release this before a year. I do however have a personal release goal set, but I would be a fool to just start throwing out dates in this thread.

But I <3 sky floors :(

Anyway it is going to be option 2, initially I had planned on being nice and having it simply teleport you back on the platform like in Alice, but also like Alice, some spots would kill you and it wouldn't be fair to have certain drops kill you and other drops teleport you without any way of knowing.

Some of those areas will have monsters in the final version, it's just empty now for show. And yes, there will be more than stock Doom 2 monsters to fit the atmosphere and gameplay.

I meant to post this sooner, but forgot. We are looking for musicians to help with music for this project, and *maybe* voice actors. Note that it isn't going to kill the project if nobody decides to help, however it would certainly speed up the progress. So if anybody is interested in voice acting or music, please respond and we can talk more.

I am a bit interested in doing some voice acting for this, but it all depends on what is involved in it for this particular project. I can certainly try some if you are going to decide to have speeches in the project.

What I'm mainly focusing on is character dialogue and sounds to go along with the characters (like doomguy sounds). Anybody can give it a try if they are interested, I just can't promise that they will be in. If anybody actually wants to try I guess I will post some random lines.

I'll leave this up for about a week or something. Anybody can either post their recordings here or PM me.

Some of the quotes are from the story, some of the quotes will be changed, and some will never be used at all. I will not list any information about who the character specifically is and what he sounds like because it shouldn't really matter and I would like to keep at least some things secret. You can probably get some idea about them based on their lines; then again maybe not.

Well, here goes nothing...

Thanks for the feedback everyone, it does help motivate knowing people actually give a crap about this.

I am looking for beta testers for catching bugs obviously, but also to hang around and give feedback on ideas, mapping, etc. Also it would be great if they have IRC. Not going to try to make this complicated; if you are interested then let me know, and if I feel you are right for it then you're in. That's all there is to it.
