"I Give Up On Trying to Map: 2- The Next Level"

So I released my latest wad over a year ago(If you are interested, here it is: http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/index.php?id=15063), and then started another one I never finished. It's basically been a year since I've touched Doom, and so I am going to attempt to map again. This will, as always be my little "Progress Thread".

Currently, it seems a little Episode Oneish, but hopefully it won't when I am done- All of my levels end up like that, so this will be my attempt to stray away from that.

UPDATE: Screenshots- Yes, These probably don't look too great, considering I've only worked on this for like 2 hours tops.

Surprisingly, this is already shaping up to be what I would consider my best level yet. It seems like it's already bigger than my last released map, and I just started it. I think having a more positive outlook on life lately has helped me improve. I am also trying to keep it simple though, so it probably won't be full of "AMAZING" detail... but it should be a fun map to play when it's finished.

Screen shots are looking great so far; looking forward to when/if you ever finish this (and hopefully you do this time :p).

Well, they look pretty ok to me. As long as the gameplay is good, I really don't give a damn about sector count.

there are maps that sacrifice layout for sector count--travesty if you ask me.

I know. Its a bit of a shame, but it seems like sector count is a higher priority in detail than basic layout to a lot of people.

It's also a shame when "sector count" and random copy/paste is a higher priority than actually making the map look good.

The third screenshot in the OP is very nice. I've always been a huge fan of the marble texture set, particularly MARBFACE textures. I like the skylight the most with the little marble skull trim. Little details like that are what make level building good times.

Also digging the way the stone pillars jut out of the walls in the second screenshot.

For two hours of work, this is pretty tight.

Alright, I am still working on this... just haven't had time in the last week or so to do any of it.

EDIT: Eh, I've spent like an hour trying trying to work on this... and I think I have hit a slump. I hope I can get out of it this time around. I can usually get a good start on my maps before I decide to quit working on it.
