I'm very confused...

Recommended Posts

I'm adding the finishing touches to Underworld (beta 3 )right now. I had a waterfall animation the replaced the dbrain textures, but since I'm using Zdoom I've decided to create a new seperate animation for it. So I created the textures:

wfall1
wfall2
wfall3
wfall4

So, I decided to just look at them before defining them as animated in my ANIMDEFS lump incase something was wrong with them. They animated themselves! Here is my whole ANIMDEFS lump:

warp flat WATERW
warp flat NUKAGEW
warp flat BLOODW
warp flat SLIMEW

And nothing more. I have many textures in my wad with names like:

dwall1
dwall2
dwall3
dwall4

etc... and now I'm afraid of them animateing themselves without me telling them to. Is this supposed to happen?

Congratulations, you've found the secret animation!

There's an animation defined for wfall* textures in doom, but the texture did not make it in to the game.

Plutonia has waterfall textures using the WFALL1-4 names.

TNT uses the animation, but the graphics are not of a waterfall.

If you look inside the file DEFSWANI.DAT that comes with the Boom utils, or the Zdoom editing utils you will see all the doom defined animations listed. DEFSWANI.DAT is the information file supplied for the SWANTBLS.EXE util to compile an ANIMATED and SWITCHES lump for boom, and derivative ports.

Congratulations, you've found the secret animation!

So what do I win? :)
On a more serious note, are there any other animations defined as well?

There's also a flat animation defined for swater1 -> swater4. It was used in the Doom betas.
