He also got me Steve Vai's "Sex & Religion" CD, to help me flush out my Devin Townsend collection. Speaking of which, my order from HevyDevy.com showed up on Christmas Eve. It had... Fortunately Britain is one of the 3/4 who aren't going to use them :) Well, for now anyway... 0 Share this post Link to post
Lord FlatHead Posted December 26, 2001 I think that out of the 15 members of the EU, about a dozen are adapting the Euro currency. Of couse, Britain had to be the odd one out once again. 0 Share this post Link to post

NiGHTMARE Posted December 26, 2001 1) I meant Britain is one of the 1/4 not joining. I got it the wrong way round :) 2) While 12/15 member states are joining, if you're talking about member countries, it's 12/18. Britain is four countries, remember... :) 3) It's the British citizens who don't want the Euro. The current government do, but are too scared to hold a referendum because they know they'll lose. Also, I think the Scottish Parliament would probably hold a seperate referendum from England, Wales and Northern Ireland. 4) The other two member states not joining the Euro are Denmark and Sweden, so British citizens aren't the only ones who are intelligent =p 5) 1/1/2002 marks the date that commerical banks in most of the 12 countries will no longer exchange the old national currency with the Euro. With one exception (Germany), the Euro won't be compulsory for a few months. Austria: March Belgium: March Finland: March France: Mid-Febuary Germany: Straight away Greece: March Ireland: Early Febuary Italy: March Luxembourg: March Netherlands: March Portugal: March Spain: March 6) Seven more countries are scheduled to join the EU in the next few years, and I doubt they'll all be willing to give up their national currency :) 0 Share this post Link to post
