The worst ending ever:
My work was corrupt
So far and all was lost
I just can't do it all over again
So here is the final version of Godsend
I would like to send it to /idgames database
But I did not see any option to at a glance
So I will send it there later but I dont know how

INFORMATION

1/20/09
Hello, Last couple of months I have been working on a rather large Megawad [50 levels] that is about more than half way done.
I realize that I should begin on things like a title screen or a soundtrack but I have none.
If anyone would know a source for ambient/creepy music [things that sound like the quake OST] I could possibly use for my WAD I would be greatful.

2/4/09
Just wanted to note that I am not going bump this thread up
Until I release a version of Godsend
I am taking the time I need to finish this WAD and am not rushing
I am not saying any dates but it won't be too long.

2/19/09
A little update should be announced that the PWAD may take a little longer then planned
because of a desire to create a diffrent atmosphere with the music.
Instead of grabbing other peoples MIDIs I am creating a soundtrack by myself
Not really anything amazing but a creepy sort of soundtrack using various sounds
This will most likely only take a little longer, but still I thought I should tell post it incase anyone thinks I am abandoning this project

2/23/09
Alright today I posted an early version for testing and opinions.
The PWAD currently is SINGLEPLAYER ONLY!
All the maps will probably change.
The maps are mixed but I recommend you play through the maps normally but in the text file I list the maps.
The link is direct.

2/25/09
I posted a small map that was from a lost Doom 1 project.
Its a modification to E1M4.
I planned for it to be on Godsend.
Then I thought more about it and it did not sink in well.
So here it is for your Dooming pleasure.

3/2/09:
My computers HD is currently FAILING!
Its making noises as I type this information.
I recovered the files but It may take a while until I find a stable place to work on this PWAD.
Just another complication of this project,
I hope it ends up being worth it though.
anyway please try Godsend 0.4 I'll try to get more then halfway done soon.

3/5/09:
I'm back on track
It was a short stop
I am currently working on support for:
CD tracks
Episodes
more realistic items like lightning
I am not going to go to into this because it is time consuming
But It would be nice to use all Zdoom features.

Night Base
---------------------------------------------------------------------
A modification of E1M4 that was not able to make it to Godsend.
IWAD: Ultimate Doom
Level: E1M1
Source:Zdoom
Bugs: An Imp is stuck at the end

soulsweat, before you start asking for help on your new mega-cool-and-whatnot project, make sure you have something to show first (screenshots, map downloads, etc). Keep in mind we've already seen thousands of upcoming projects that actually never got done.

That being said, there are a lot of sites that boast about "free" music if you just use google. However, these sites don't always credit the real owners who may or may not have wanted their music put on them.

I don't think that was the correct time to use that. Your chance will come. Just wait.

I gotta ask, why 50 maps? Isn't 32 enough for you?

I mean, if a megawad just drags on and on, the player will most likely lose his/her attention than a 32 map megawad.

The screenshots are okay. Some are perhaps too blandish and simple. I noticed there are lots of square sectors, try experimenting with different shapes too. Keep it up. :-)

If you're going to keep making the outside areas darker than the inside ones, I'd suggest finding a good night sky. Looks very strange as it is at the moment, particularly the Courtyard pic.

I like the screen shots. The architecture is pretty simple, but it makes it look more like classic Doom. I'd love to try to this out when it's finished.

I kind of like the simplicity. For a while I was making the mistake of only playing top-echelon releases, which made me feel like I had overdosed on something, or had gone overboard at a buffet. Playing simple stuff in between is better - it gives attention to more mappers, and it cleanses the aesthetic palette.

Sorry if I came off as an asshole earlier. I probably should have given you more time, and you were asking where to find sounds, not showing off your project :P. As for the shots, not bad. I like your style, and I hope to see more from you in the future.

I think this looks good, though I agree that with your lighting choices a night sky would be good. Also, it's spelled "cemetery".

Next time you use an uploading site, please use Filefront. There you can upload files in your own folder without releasing them to Filefront directly and the downloader doesn’t have the waiting time. Also: don’t give us so many pictures. I’m sure to not look at them all. 5 pictures are enough.

To the level: it is good, but I would give the player the shotgun from the beginning on, because many people like me hate to shoot with the pistol. And: have you implemented the difficulties yet? Be sure to implement them in the final version.

Good luck, you have some potential for creating doom levels, keep on creating!

Are you sure you want to use these awful Doom 64 sounds? Also: don’t use a folder in the zip file please.

EDIT:
“SFX: PSXSOUNDS.wad was used in this wad“... Maybe you can include this wad separately in the zip file, if you like the sounds so much!

I'm positively surprised, there's a bunch of nice ideas in the maps. However, some of the basics like texture alignment are really lacking and it seems like you're trying to compensate for that with using way too many ZDoom features and horrible sound replacements. I'd say forget all about ZDoom, forget all about new sounds, textures and graphics and instead concentrate on improving your mapping skills. These maps are really showing some promise already, so if you'll focus on what matters, that being the maps, one day you'll be making some really nice maps. :)

(I'm not saying that ZDoom (and other advanced) features are pointless; they can in fact be used to improve maps, but only if you're already a good mapper. For less experienced mappers advanced features only end up making the maps feel awkward and messy. First get your basics together, do some nice vanilla/limit removing maps, then move up to Boom and after that if it feels like voodoo dolls aren't good enough for you go ZDoom/Eternity/whatever)

That is exactly why I quit this project after those files became corrupt.
I want to work on some other maps that are not in this style.

This sounds nice and all, but c'mon, 50 levels!!! Sure that is ok but if one is going to have that massive ammount of levels he/she have better make them fun and unique to keep the players interest or he will just lose it and stop playing after awhile. Not to be whiny, but i think i speak for must of us.

Its not 50
At first it was
then it became 32
Then my file became corrupt
I gave up and gave out what I had as a final version
Only about 17 levels
Its quick but I hope it entertaining
