Help needed... again!

I downloaded an FTP progam (Global Downloader). Can you help me out as far as what address to type in.

I have 3 listings and none works: archives.3dgamers.com; archives.gamers.org.21; ftp.gamers.

I don't know what I'm doing. And the "help" menu is no help at all.

I actually made a connection to an ftp site, but when I clicked on the "pub" folder, a big red X and a big sounding bell let me know there was an error, and wouldn't let me proceed.

I somehow managed to get my zipped folder listed in the transfer window, but again, under "status" it said error.

I've read the newstuff faq on how to do this. It sounds fairly simple. But I guess I need itemized steps on how to do this.

Also, I understand "bin" is an option I need to select. Where is that option?

The "local source" box... I assume that's the location of where my wad is, right?

And the port... I'm just guessing and punching in 21.

I just want to upload my map. And this phase is killing me.

At this point, I'm wondering... just how stupid am I?

Thanks...

Did you read the NEWSTUFF stickied thread in red in the Wads & Mods forum?

I prefer FileZilla - it's open-source and does the job nicely.

The /newstuff FAQ is slightly out-of-date - I'm using ftp.gamers.org as the host address with /pub/games/idgames as the default remote directory (or /pub/games/idgames/incoming if you want to go straight to /incoming).

Most FTP clients support auto-detection of filetypes, if you can't find the option - don't worry.

Yes and yes.

To the Grey Ghost...

Thanks much for your time and your suggestion and the specifics.

File Zilla is terrific!

You have just relieved me of a lot of stress... a lot.

And now I can go back and enjoy aloha777 now that it's out my hands.

For awhile, I thought it would never see the light of day. And that would have been sad.

Next time around, things should run smoother and I don't anticipate any more of these kinds of post.

Thanks again...
