Capellan Posted May 3, 2009 Pretend I haven't played Doom since Alien Vendetta came out. Oh wait, no need to pretend. I haven't :) So what WADs would you recommend? Some parameters: - I have both Doom 2 and Ult Doom - I have Chocolate Doom and ZDoom (and I don't want to download a million other source ports) - multi-level WADs preferred (a single level WAD will need to be something really special to convince me to download it) - I prefer my Doom without new monsters or weapons unless the new stuff is done really, really well. Thanks! 0 Share this post Link to post

Capellan Posted May 3, 2009 I suspect I played h2h-xmas when it first came out. 1996 was a peak Doom period for me :) Clusterone and esselfortium's recommendations are now all downloaded. One other thing I should mention: I'm a distinctly average (probably below average) player. So WADs that pride themselves on being tough are probably not a good idea unless they actually have difficulty levels enabled :) Edit: Belial's recs downloaded as well. Even HR2, though I expect I'll be playing that on HNTR, at most :) 0 Share this post Link to post

Deeforce Posted May 3, 2009 Please check this out: “my top singleplayer wads“ thread 1, thread 2. If you want more, look here and here. If you play them all, then you will have a good knowledge of good doom levels I think :-P! 0 Share this post Link to post
myk Posted May 3, 2009 Try Scythe. I think you may like it because, like your Dmonfear, it has a series of smaller levels, except for the later ones that are bigger. A couple of other WADs you might like are The Revolution (TVR) and Scientist 2 (Sci2). 0 Share this post Link to post
Capellan Posted May 3, 2009 Thanks to Deeforce, I now appear to be downloading the entire internet :) myk: I don't mind playing big levels. I even don't mind building them, from time to time ... I just didn't fancy doing 32 levels worth of big stuff :) I looked at dmonfear for the first time in nearly ten years yesterday. There's some good stuff, but there's some ... not so good stuff ... too. 0 Share this post Link to post
myk Posted May 4, 2009 One flaw it has is that some REJECT lumps are corrupt, which prompted players to use a fix-up WAD along with it to record demos with Doom2 v1.9, as otherwise they desynch. 0 Share this post Link to post
Capellan Posted May 4, 2009 I hadn't even thought of that. I was just looking at the level design. :) 0 Share this post Link to post
ReFracture Posted May 7, 2009 Zpack Temple of chaos 1 and 2 ultimate simplicity halo of wonders vrack series zdoom community map project sapphire - orbital research the city of the damned vae victus ii Pretty much everything else I would recommend has been mentioned already. Some of those are single level wads, but they're quite good imo. 0 Share this post Link to post
