Doom monster creator?

Recommended Posts

I need an easy non-scriting windows based user friendly monster CREATOR.
I just want to simply be able to run it and make different monsters. A sprite creator would be useful too. (Nothing specified to one engine! unless it's an Easy to use program that is very flexible. Basically anything that will work on zdoom no lump files please!)
Thanks Nintyminty

Yeah, I have a program that might help. It also cooks pizza, does your dishes, improves your sex life and brings peace in the middle east.

But in all seriousness, no such program does, or ever will, exist. The closest you're going to come to this is a DECORATE Editor

Use paint/Photoshop to create the pictures for your monster and then import them into your wad using SlumpEd. If you want to make an entirely new monster, you will need to know some scripting to add behavior to it. You can look it up here: http://zdoom.org/wiki/DECORATE. SlumpEd will also allow you to make DECORATE files.

I don't see how this is possible since wads are entirely made up of lumps.

It is absolutely impossible to CREATE new monsters without using engine-specific features since the original game did not include any mechanism by which to add new actors, monsters or otherwise.

It is also absolutely impossible to define anything new or replaced without lump files. Where else are you going to define the data?

Since you mentioned you want it to work with ZDoom, your best option is to learn to use ZDoom's DECORATE system. Honestly, it's the most user-friendly content definition language available to Doom ports out there.

You can use slumped. http://slumped.mancubus.net/
Or you can simply use a zip file. A DECORATE lump is a text file, so even Notepad can edit them, and then you zip it along with the PNG files for the sprites.
http://zdoom.org/wiki/Using_ZIPs_as_WAD_replacement

And you can even use slumped to create and edit zip files. It features syntax highlighting for DECORATE.

Don't be so lazy. Read the documentation, look at examples, learn how you can simplify your task by using inheritance so you can base your new monsters on existing ones without having to redefine everything, experiment a bit, and if there's something you don't understand even after having looked at the wiki, ask again.

Thanks I'll hsve s try. Doom Builder first as it is the first level editor I can use properly :)Your programme looks amazing (even though I can't find where to download it (probably because it isn't fully finished :S )) It look like the perfect editor. I know it sounds clich├ęd but yesterday I was thinking all day about a programme with an interface like that. Thankyou soooo much!
