Rock Lobstah Posted July 31, 2009 Hi, first post but long-time Doom fanatic (since 1993). Anyway, is there a way to enhance the quality of Doom's music? Check these links, for example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qURei6svd90&fmt=18 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bYVX6b9svuE&fmt=18 As I recall they're from a soundtrack CD, but has anyone or a port managed to enhance the overall quality of Doom's music to this, or is Doom stuck in MIDI? Would love to know 'cause this enhanced quality stuff is great and other WADs like Hell Revealed 2 would benefit greatly from it. 0 Share this post Link to post
myk Posted July 31, 2009 MIDI itself will play differently depending on what you play it with. Other than that, people have also made remixes. Various source ports allow MOD, MP3 or OGG playback, which can increase possibilities beyond MIDI (or Doom's MIDI clone, MUS) or can let you have a sound to the music that's independent of the MIDI hardware or software. See the Music section of Doomworld, this thread, and this page. There should be more; using search here or on Google should likely get you more stuff. 0 Share this post Link to post
Super Jamie Posted July 31, 2009 If you're upset about the way Windows/freepats makes the music sound crap because of MIDI playback, both ZDoom and DOXBox do OPL emulation. The dude over at sycraft also produces high-quality original-sounding Doom soundtracks. 0 Share this post Link to post
perkristian Posted August 1, 2009 I've also made a few tracks: http://www.perkristian.net/game_doom.shtml http://www.perkristian.net/game_doom2.shtml 0 Share this post Link to post

I forgot to mention I'm using ZDoom, wasn't aware it can emulate. So thanks for the responses and links, guys. By the way, check out this remix of Running From Evil :D : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZZjktwdpPFw&fmt=18 perkristian said:I've also made a few tracks: http://www.perkristian.net/game_doom.shtml http://www.perkristian.net/game_doom2.shtml This actually isn't that bad, the drums are great, but the other chord-like synthesized sounds sound distorted or out of tune. It's evident in Shawn's got the Shotgun, for example. 0 Share this post Link to post
