What is a good tool for exporting/importing textures or patches?

I just downloaded WinTex because I wanted to create a few new textures figuring that I'd export the patches I want to edit, edit them in Paint or GIMP, then import them and put together a texture, but I can't see any importing or exporting function. And when I tried to export patches with SLumpEd, they turned out crappy and monochrome (they weren't stock patches, if that has anything to do with anything).

Wintex was great about ten years ago, but it is horribly outdated.

Most of us use SLumpEd and/or XWE

[edit]Er, nevermind, you're exporting. I'm not sure what the problem is there, but you might try exporting in different formats.
