the link for map 29 says it's still loading or something. I tried map 23 a little, and from the start, it's too cramped and looks jam-packed with monsters. I stopped after immediately being slashed by a baron when I teleported from the pit you drop into in front of the revenants.

I've got stuff to do so I might look at them later ... maybe.

Ok, my maps contain hard difficulty, so be prepared for traps, monster hordes and so on.....

The ammo in the first map was just annoying. Not challenging, annoying. For me at least. Tell me, could you beat this map yourself?

The mere choice of sharing site is already a bad omen for this wad.

Downloaded snow.wad. Revenant snipers from a pistol start gets an instaquit from me.

Opening the map in DB I see 10239 sidedefs over 1422 sectors. It's fairly large and some of the detailing is really nice. 248 monsters and the difficulty level looks to be quite hard, probably to the point I'd consider it unfair and not fun. Lots of height variation and tight passages, would probably be annoying to play in a port without perspective-correcting mouselook, some parts seem to require jumping or at least straferunning. You've also left the 3D Mode Start in, which some ports complain about.

Hotfile has a limit of one file per 15 minutes which sucks. At least use Megaupload which limits to one concurrent download or get a free Googlepages site which has no limits.

Screenshots and some more info than "here's a hard map" will help attract more people to your wads. Some parts of snow look great, even if the gameplay isn't my style.

First, let me jump on the bandwagon and say this filehost sucks. Not a big deal, but annoying.

I tried both maps, and found both enjoyable although a bit too hard for me. Including lower difficulty settings would be good.

I didn't see any problem with snow.wad's start, as there's a chaingun a few feet from the player, a shotgunguy a bit further and plenty of cover. Ammo was alright as well (not enough to kill everything at first, but as the layout has lots of interconnectivity you're bound to go back to the same spots and having low ammo forces you to make choices as to which monsters you're going to kill first).

Great maps, I'm looking forward to play more of your work.

Uvmax for snow if interested. Only the beginning is fast, the rest is really slow/unmemorized so probably not great to watch (like a half hour total).

I thought it was fun. Btw you can run off the stairs out that 1st blockade without triggering it. Also you can trigger some monsters warps without fully falling off the ledge (then retreat/kill from a safer location).
That one puzzle blockade was cool/kinda hard to figure out, assuming I even did it right.

I had a play through map29 And I gotta say, it was pretty good. Probably a few too many revenants, and too little ammo throughout, but certainly doable. A few of the fights were too cramped. Hard is fine, but you gotta give the player at least a little room to dodge incoming attacks.

The map design was good overall. A few texture selections that kinda clashed i thought, and one of the doors needed its sides to have lower unpegged on it, but this is an excellent start.

Also posting screenies would be a help, coz then people know what they are getting. And mostly the map looks good. :)

Theres a difference between a hard map, and noob work.

Good mappers make their work difficult, yet still playable and nice to look at.

These maps are tough, but they're far from noob work if you ask me. I actually really enjoyed them both, even if they were a bit unrefined. Some areas I felt were a bit too crammed with monsters on UV, but otherwise still quite nice to look at and playable.

Well, I tried map29 and the first thing which came to my mind, playing in HMP, was "arrrgh, too many monsters, too many, all the time". I think the design is good, but as someone said before, a little more room to try to dodge would be nice.

I didn't play on UV since it's not exactly my style (I supposed there would be even MORE monsters), but I think you should reduce the hordes on HMP : I'm playing witha paddle and was (almost) constently pressing the "fire" button. Having some areas free of monsters would be interesting in order to give a little more "atmosphere" on this map.

Last, there are a lot of misaligned (or rather just not-aligned) textures that you will have to fix, but overall I liked it.

I played both of these the other night, and completely forgot to give you feedback. Whoops!

I really enjoyed both of these. The start of Burn in particular was fantastically intense, as was Stone. (Especially because I missed the shotgun at the start of Stone. Heh.)

In regards to improving them, I think visually, you make really nice maps. There was quite a lot of texture alignment issues which I think you could certainly work on, but in terms of the visuals, that was my only major gripe.

Also, when placing pillars and so on, remember you can simply delete the sector rather than raising/lowering the floor/ceiling heights.

Now, when it came to your monster layout, and their positioning and so on, I felt that Burn, while it started out fantastically tense, got easier and easier. I think it would have been better if you could have kept this difficulty as consistant as possibly right through out the map.

Also, remember to mark your secret sectors as secrets :)

As for Stone, I think the only thing I could add, was the switch puzzle near the blue door. I would tag the blue door, so that when one of the blue door pillars is triggered, they all raise. Just to make that puzzle a touch more forgiving.

Other than that, the health/ammo count seemed fine, and the only encounter I felt was over-kill was the massive amount of enemies released by Line 3110. (The one that opens the room full of revenauts and other enemies.) I didn't quite understand how you intended the player to fight them, so I ended up backing well out of the room and picking them off, and I'm not sure that was what you had intended?

Anyway, keep mapping! I want more! :D

Hotfile is the host from which I regularly download my porn. NOT a good host for Doom WADs.

I suggest Sendspace. It has a download slot limit for unregistered users, but it's rarely reached unless the file is massively popular and doesn't require waiting between downloads.

So far, I keep dying right at the beginning of Burn. *insert grinning smiley here* I'll post some actually constructive criticism when I get farther than that. I like it so far, though.

The map 23 one seems pretty much intended for mouselook; its annoying without it at some points (the stairs with warping enemies + 2 reverents at bottom, and the baron of hell below another door which I killed with infinitely tall rocket splash damage) Tried a demo multiple times but failed; beating it should be possible but the safe route gameplay is tedious with a hard part in the middle past the soulsphere (my tactic was just run through the enemies to the lowering floor, but last time I tried I got cheaply surrounded) which means redoing the tedious parts over and over. I like that switch puzzle too.

Hah, there are lots of different opinions here. I have another map (which is almost done). Since I'm thinking to create a megawad I'll pay more attention to your suggestions.
