noobish table/desk question

So, I'm throwing together a small map for my friends and I, and in creating a table, I get a rather large HOM and slime trail above and below the "desk". An example of what I'm doing is this: http://img23.yfrog.com/i/screenshotdoom200911151.png/
What do I do to make the desk a surface?

Yes. I have it set to have the floor at 0, where all the rest of the floor is, and the ceiling at 50. this does drag the ceiling down, so I'm trying to find a way to stop it, giving the desk a flat top with my ceiling/floor texture.

This. If not, it's the sidedefs being matched to the wrong sectors

Been there - done that - the scars have yet to heal. Try setting the floor at 50 (actually, 24 to 32 is a more appropriate height) and the ceiling to match the surrounding sector.

Unless you want the player to step on to it, 25 is a better starting value because 24 is the highest that the player can step on to (without jumping).

You have only made 1-sided linedefs for your table sector, you need to have two-sided linedefs and create the table as a separate sector.

What map editor are you using? Doom Builder should do all this stuff automatically for you. Have a read of Dr Sleep's Doom Builder Tutorial to learn about making sectors properly.
