I remember the hilariously overblown trailer by the delusions-of-granduer makers of it who thought they were some big hollywood studio.

At least it's the undisputed Ben Hur of all machinimas with its ~4h running time. Way too much dialogue for a Quake movie.

Well. IIRC, the way it's set up in Quake is episodic. So you can just watch one episode at a time. The Movie is also related to the Nehahra Project mod for Quake. Though the mod is a sequel to the movie.

Sort of. It has chapters like a dvd, but it's a continuous plot so one still has to watch the entire thing. It's indeed not so much "the" Quake movie - it picks up the few bits of story from the manual and works it into the Nehahra story. The movie is more like an intro to the mod.
I wish Mindcrime had released some kind of director's cut afterwards...

Yes, but what does that have to do with anything? The point of watching it is because you want to see it, isn't it? The fact remains that if you don't want to do it in one sitting, you can watch it one episode at a time. Just like you would any TV show (like Prison break).

That was pretty epic for a Machinama that old, I actually watched the whole thing lol.
