Skulltag has a new home

I believe that was changed when we upgraded to phpBB 3.0. No one bothered to convert the code being used and Rive doesn't think it's worth the time since the news page got close to 0 visitors.

I don't disagree with him that it's probably a waste of time, but the news page would probably get more hits regularly if something was actually there. Probably not enough to justify the amount of work, but still.

Skulltag is nothing but drama nowdays. I used to think the old ZDaemon days had a lot of drama but god damn ZDaemon can't hold a candle to Skulltag now.

I know. Nobody ever plays Skulltag or makes anything for it, all they do is bicker on the forums, yes?

Really? I assumed that ZDaemon was just so ceaselessly dramatic that Doomworld as a whole stopped caring. Kind of like how nobody cares when another hundred thousand people die out in Suckstobeheria.

In ZDaemon's case, it closed in on itself, rather than Doomworld specifically not caring. You can see ZDaemon users posting on Doomworld, but they don't usually talk about ZDaemon specific stuff here. It's not too different with any port that has its own site with enough users, but in ZDaemon it's more pronounced because it both has a more closed structure (than even Skulltag) and is more of a player's port than a WAD developers port, when Doomworld tends to be about WADs and port development. ZDaemon also took most deathmatch related attention in the process. (Skulltag has some, too, but it seems more focused on its specific modes and coop.) Doomworld used to have a multiplayer forum, but it was merged with the general one due to a lack of activity.

Totally unrelated comment: I hate the fact that clicking on the "news" link takes you to the forum. Was it really that hard to have the news posts displayed on the main page instead of taking you to the forum where in order to actually view the latest news posts you then have to click on a thread which may or may not even be the latest news post?

This could EASILY be fixed. I borrowed some code from Randy that he uses on the ZDoom site to do precisely this for the hostees on DRD Team - I'm sure the same thing could be done for Skulltag.

Both Spork and I did this for our respective skulltag.com websites. It's pretty easy :)

Well, not quite. Sometimes they bitch about specific Skulltag mods instead.

I read up on what this is.

- Carnevil made it with the contributions of 200 people.
- He gave it to someone else.
- Now its someone else's?
- Now Carnevil wants back in?

Is that the gist?

This stuff happens all the time. Including behind the scenes in pro wrestling. TNA wrestling has been torn from its founder. ROH wrestling has been torn from its founder, due to its founder appearing on a child predator show.

No.

- Carnevil made it with the contributions of 200 people.
- He gave it to someone else.
- Now its someone else's?
- Now Carn wants to ban people he doesn't like because he doesn't like them.
- The forum team say "stop it"
- At the same time, there's a server move.
- Carn cries "mutiny! theft!"

Carn doesn't want back in, he's working on another project. He's just upset he hasn't been granted full control on the new server because the team doesn't want him banning peple willy-nilly after they've spent the last two years defining a nearly consensual procedure for warnings and bans.

Wait... so this is a just community thing? I thought the "issue" was bigger. This is like a musician trying to stomp out a fan site? Only the fan site is his official site? Only its a former founder no longer band member trying to control the official site?

Now if it was "Carnevil.com" then it would be his. He is Carnevil. Skulltag is Skulltag. Like a company, because its not a person. Its not him, its his product.

The product lives on and is bigger than the person.

I like the way geo described it. Now it makes me think of fun phrases like "it's like if Bill Gates decided that he didn't like how Microsoft was doing things and demanded they move their offices."

Geo wins the thread. This is truesay.

Ambition is a poor excuse for not having sense enough to be lazy.

I support my fellow dictator, Carn(evil). Emoism is bad for the community, not evil.

Edit: Forgot to send congrats to the other side for their impeccable ability to remain freedom fighters in the eyes of the swine. Great play. Power struggles are better than T.V.

108th post!

On topic: OOh boy, a self described dictator is here to support Carnevil!

It is an interesting interpretation to say that the new Admins are perceived as "freedom fighters" by the majority("the swine"), but I don't know whether you are serious or joking. I get the sense that Carnevil is an evil dictator and the new admins are thieving thieves.
It's all too confusing to choose a side, anyway.

But I STRONGLY DISAGREE on one thing, T.V. is MUCH better than this drama. Have you even played Harmony yet, and ever heard of such a thing as Revolution!? ;8^)

Finally, Kim Jong Il registers his very own Doomworld account. I've waited for this moment so long~!
