Multiple Linked Switches

Recommended Posts

I need to know how to create switches that are linked so that if you press both, something happens, but if you press only one, nothing happens.

PLEASE HELP!

What is the intended source port? What is supposed to happen?

If it is Boom compatible, you could use voodoo dolls. If it is a source port that supports scripting, you could make a script that is executed once you activate both switches.

What port? With an ACS-capable port, you can use a script. With a Boom- compatible port, you can use voodoo dolls on conveyor belts.

you would need create a script for it in the map editor. assign some variables at the start of your script (eg. int switch) then in a void script use an if statement to define the conditions that will open your door.

Before you ask: a voodoo doll is an extra Player 1 Start placed on the map. If you place more player 1 starts, only one will be real. The rest will still function like players, but will be under no one's control and won't wake up monsters. However, they WILL be able to activate any line type, if moved around, even those forbidden to monsters, and if they take damage, you do as well (that's why they're called voodoo dolls).

Doomsday and Risen3D's XG could also do such a thing. Have the two switches alter the count field of a third line and have said third line activate and do whatever when it's count becomes X.

Though one could conceivably kludge such things in Vanilla Doom under certain circumstances. For instance say you want two switches to open a door that you can't see from either switch; you could make the door out of two smaller doors with 1 unit wide gap between them for instance. A player wouldn't notice that the door is actually two doors if done well.
