HeXploiT Posted February 2, 2010 So a guy walks into the Doom forums and wants to play Doom, Doom II, Final Doom and Ultimate Doom all on a pc and all with the best graphics possible. Searching could take awhile even for a Doom fanatic much less the casual Doom gamer. Hook me up! What are the best patches for all of these games? 0 Share this post Link to post
Gez Posted February 2, 2010 Doomsday Engine/jDoom and Risen3D both have a number of hires pack and model packs. http://dengine.net/ http://risen3d.drdteam.org/ Personally, though, I think the old sprites look very nice with GZDoom's brightmaps instead: http://grafzahl.drdteam.org/ 0 Share this post Link to post
Vermil Posted February 2, 2010 Though it should be noted that Doomsday and Risen3D both allow the use of the original sprites and graphics as well; i.e you aren't forced to use models and hi-res packs with said ports and pretty much all their graphical features will still work with the original graphics. 0 Share this post Link to post
Kagemaru_H Posted February 3, 2010 Doom games, modding, graphics. You want it? It's yours my friend, as long as you use GZDoom. 0 Share this post Link to post

I had to resist the urge to make a post with a lame joke about the cyberdemon saying that you must die for bringing the OpenGL-Mode into his lair. It buuuurns. 0 Share this post Link to post
Tolwyn Posted February 3, 2010 At an average of 1MB per port, usually, try them all. The iwads can be in one location, and all the ports can be elsewhere! That way, you can play all the levels made for any/all the ports! 0 Share this post Link to post
Tolwyn Posted February 4, 2010 I like PRBoom+ for demo support and "vanilla" Doom PWADS. I like JDoom (Doomsday) when I don't need the demo support, or want to have a more (IMHO) atmospheric experience with skyboxes. Also, has the ability to turn off autoaim. I like GZDoom for OpenGL support of the Zdoom/Boom capabilities. I like Chocolate Doom when I need to test a map for "vanilla" compatibility. I like Skulltag for some great options for Multiplay (DM and/or Coop). There is no ONE TRUE correct answer to your question. 0 Share this post Link to post

Come on, man, don't leave me hanging! GZDoom has always pretty enough for me when I'm in the mood for OpenGL. Creaphis regularly uses: PrBoom+, ZDoom, GZDoom Creaphis sometimes uses: Chocolate Doom, Skulltag Creaphis uses when a mod absolutely requires it: Vavoom, Legacy Creaphis would use if a mod required it: Eternity Creaphis has never downloaded: Risen3D, Doomsday 0 Share this post Link to post
DuckReconMajor Posted February 4, 2010 Creaphis said:mod absolutely requires ... Vavoom, what this is?Creaphis said:Creaphis has never downloaded ... DoomsdayReal shame. Even if you end up hating it, you have to at least try it. Pull up E2M8 with your choice of texture filtering on or off. 0 Share this post Link to post
JiklJaklA$$Slap Posted February 4, 2010 GZDoom is good. Creaphis, I am just so absolutely sick of every cheek on your entire body. I might have to slurp them right off. 0 Share this post Link to post

Gez Posted February 4, 2010 Creaphis said:Only clavnox.wad actually. Pretty sure you can run it with GZDoom. Unless a Vavoom mod uses VavoomC, GZDoom ought to be able to run it (though you may have to repackage it a bit first). 0 Share this post Link to post
Creaphis Posted February 4, 2010 It's a wad I reviewed for T/nC a long time ago. Even though playing it in other ports may be possible, for the sake of reviewing it it seemed wisest to play it as intended. It's kind of a moot point now because I don't intend to replay it. 0 Share this post Link to post

bimlanders Posted February 5, 2010 Hi. Could someone point me to a good texture pack for Heretic, either GZdoom or Doomsday? -thanks. 0 Share this post Link to post
Xtroose Posted February 5, 2010 Baker's Legacy is probably the biggest texture wad for Heretic. It also contains textures from MedivlTX by esselfortium and RottKing. 0 Share this post Link to post
