geekmarine Posted February 28, 2010 Maes, you raise an interesting point, and it's one that bothers me. You're right, it's unlikely that video would be aired here in the US. However, the fact that it wouldn't is something that I see as a problem. We're so quick to censor anything that makes us feel uncomfortable, but to me, that just flies in the face of what this country was founded upon. Like, I still remember Bill Maher losing his show over his comments about how the terrorists who committed 9/11 weren't cowardly. Sure, the action wasn't technically unconstitutional - it's not like it was the government that silenced him here, but to me, the idea that people felt he needed to be silenced goes against the spirit, if not the letter, of the Constitution. It just strikes me that holding two conflicting notions can be a difficult thing - how long can one go along believing that certain opinions should not be expressed before they start to feel more comfortable with the notion of the government enforcing that? 0 Share this post Link to post
