Mississippi: Asshole of the USA

Never thought I'd side with the ACLU, but they were absolutely correct this time. Fuck California, but Double-Fuck the south.

Seriously. We live in such "progressive" times, yet a school CANCELS PROM because of one student's orientation and desire to wear a tuxedo.

The south won't rise again, and I'll be there with a rifle if it does.

If I lived closer, I would try to go to that prom in a dress.

Just another display of the religious taking themselves far too seriously- it's like they can't accept that any hold they had on people has been slipping pretty well for the last 50 years or so, and is only getting worse.

I have a friend who used to live down there.

Any doubts about the region being back-asswards were quickly smashed when I talked to him. That entire area is a shithole and openly hostile to homosexuality and scientific education.

As if still seeing the southern flag on one out of every 2 trucks says anything else.

A funny story; I once asked a man from the south (as a very little boy of 10) why he had that flag on his Ford F-150 since it (essentially) stood for slavery and racial prejudice. It's a good day when a 10 year old kid can make a guy over 50 seriously reconsider a choice in his life.

See, it's shit like this that makes me ashamed of being Southern. It should, should, I say, should, make other Southerners feel the same way, but for some reason or other it probably won't :(

I bet he couldn't hear you over his Johnny Rebel tapes.

This quote from the article sums things up nicely for me.

Southside Baptist Church Pastor Bobby Crenshaw said he's seen the South portrayed as "backwards" on Web sites discussing the issue, "but a lot more people here have biblically based values."

Just out of curiosity, when AREN'T you on the side of the ACLU? If you value liberty, you should ALWAYS be on their side. I've never seen them take a case that wasn't important to everyone's civil liberties.

Maybe he's a bible thumping Jesus hugger.

Though that admittedly explains nothing, especially not this post. So never mind :P

Why do these people still get treated so horribly? I honestly don't quite get it. They've done nothing wrong to piss others off. :|

I find the thought of those people who still do this to GLBT people (Hint: I am one myself) are just fucked up. First blacks, then women, but we still are pulling shit with gay folk?

What? He didn't give you the ol', "That flag ain't standin' for slavery, son! Learn a lil' history before you insult mah culture!" speech? That's pretty surprising.

I don't like to stereotype, but what can one expect from the state that gave us assholes such asTrent Lott and banned America: The Book from libraries because of the crudely photoshopped supreme court justices? What a joke.

I can't really think of anything to say to this but, why? I hope she wins this lawsuit and i hope the school realises what they did, when you think about it,the school committed a hate crime.

Canceling a prom because of gayness may be hateful, but.. a hate crime? Why do we give crimes special "hate" classifications, anyway? Does hating someone in the act of committing a crime against them make it any more wrong?

That article isn't a particularly good one on this topic, but because it's Yahoo news, the comments are fucking hilarious. One yokel was confused as to how to spell "lezzies" and every other time he wrote the word it came out as "lizzies."

Well, after all he's "siding" with Liberals while still voting Republican, whatever that's supposed to mean. Congruency of views and positions doesn't seem to be one of Mr. Freeze's strong points.

I think he renounced his Republican-hood recently...maybe because of shit like this. If I interpret correctly, Mr. Freeze is too economically libertarian to be a Democrat and too socially libertarian to be a Republican.

(Not that the Republicans can even claim to be economic libertarians anymore...)

I remember reading this earlier today. It's sad to see how adverse many people are to change like this, but of course who cares about civil liberties? People will be people - if it offends them, dismantle/ban it

Yeah, he "renounced" it by saying that he is "siding" with Liberals, but will keep voting Republican, which in my book is utter horse, cow, camel and mule dung.

Mr. Freeze said:
Jesus H Christ. I'd never thought I'd ever say it, but the GOP can go fuck itself. I'm still gonna vote Republican, but as of now I'm officially switching my party to Libertarian.

Last time I checked, affiliation to a party meant actually voting for it. Seriously, what's the point in this?

He said that?

Heh - last time I checked, being affiliated to a political party was little different to being a <insert name of favorite high-profile sports team> supporter. Now and then you become disenchanted with your team's lack of direction and threaten to transfer your allegiance elsewhere, but you keep coming back, the true masochists believers always do. Not that it matters in the grand scheme of things, politics - like sport - is only a game.

I'm not always going to vote GOP, but I tend to. Why? Gun rights, a strong military, fiscal responsibility. All things that the GOP (kinda) stands for, although there are a lot of bad apples in the ranks (McCain, Palin, Romney, etc.). I'll even admit that Obama has delivered on the first two (although Biden is still a threat to the first).

I have no problem voting Democrat as long as the canidate isn't going to screw the country up. Think of JFK and Truman, and you have an idea of a Dem I'd vote for. The problem is, I just don't see anyone like that within the ranks. Yeah I voted McCain, but I regretted it. TBH, I'd actualy PREFER Obama to him.

The Libertarian party is so fragmented right now, they will NEVER gain a seat in anything beyond the local mayoral office. Hell, most of the Libertarians I know don't consider ME Libertarian. I can vote any way I want. I am the ultimate anomaly.

Just because you vote Republican? Gee, what narrow views some people have!

No, you're just as random as a St. Patrick's parade in the middle of Akihabara, Tokyo.

Libertarianism has a shitload of subtypes. You have the Socialist Libertarians, the Anarchist Libertarians, the pro/anti-property Libertarians, and much more. And every facet hates everyone that isn't them.

This, as stated above, is why a Libertarian will never become elected to any powerful position. The party is simply too split and cannot reconcile in order to achieve a goal. The best chance we got was Ron Paul, and look how that went.
