Quick Question(for the pc gurus)

Is a AMD cpu 955 socket quad core compatible with a (Mobo-->)Asus M2N-SLI(not deluxe)940 socket? I keep reading how they are backwards compatible with a AM2+ but I can not get a straight answer for AM2. Which is what I have.

Any help would be appreciated.

If you mean the Phenom II X4 955, if it's only backwards compatible to AM2+, then that's what it will work in (and AM3 of course). It won't work in regular AM2.

Cpu-z is telling me my socket is am2(940) so isnt that the same as above? All of this socket backwards compatibility nonsense has got me all confused and I really do not want to buy a new Mobo just for a quad core right at the moment.

Socket AM2 is not the same as AM2+. It won't work.

Also some AM2+ mobos may only be compatible up to 945 due to power requirements (like mine) so check that also.
