Doom monster noise in... reggae song from 1987?

Recommended Posts

Awesome, I thought it might be stock. Which sound is it exactly?

I definitely heard it, although its not at the time suggested by the OP. It happens precisely at 2:59 - sounds like the idle grunting noise of a zombie man.

Hopefully it's not a baby cry pitched down, like in Doom 3, or that Diablo 1 caves soundtrack.

Nope, not a Doom sound...similar to DSPOSACT but not it.

I wonder how none noticed that way before 2:59 (from 2:50) there were women screaming in the background, whose screamss gradually became gurgling, guttural sounds. Unusual for a reggae song that's supposed to be all about happy Jamaicans bathing in the sun and smoking Ganja, but nothing to do with Doom. Pretty disturbing though. Wasn't there a Doom64 map that had a soundtrack made all of baby cries and anguished screams?

Yup. Played on map12: Altar of Pain and map30: The Lair.

A similar track also exists in PSX Doom, playing on Mt. Erebus and The Crusher. It may also play elsewhere in PSX Final Doom.

I think it's about vampires though.
