Mr. T Posted October 20, 2010 Star Trek was everything the Star Wars prequels could've been, but um, weren't (lol.) Spoiler Spock Prime was just icing on the cake 0 Share this post Link to post

Nomad Posted October 20, 2010 I agree, Batman Begins was good. I don't care if you don't like the "realistic" universe that Nolan set up. 0 Share this post Link to post

I did like it an there is just enough comic elements there to still make it feel like a comic book movie. I could see Nolan getting away with putting some one like Bane or Killer Croc in his movies. They would be no where near as bad as Arnold trying to play Mr. Freeze. 0 Share this post Link to post
Nomad Posted October 20, 2010 The way I see it, if I want a comic I'll read the comics. Nolan is a cinematographer and he makes movies, and Begins and TDN were movies. Good ones at that. If you didn't like TDN, go read The Killing Joke. Which ironically to the conversation a bit earlier TKJ has a pretty deep backstory for Joker while Nolan's movie IMO does the preferable thing and establishes a vicious psychopath with unknown origin. 0 Share this post Link to post
Sharessa Posted October 20, 2010 Snakes said:I always thought the point behind Carpenter's Michael Meyers was that there was no point. He was always just... y'know, evil. Not a response to bullies, or some sort of rage towards his family. He just killed as a kid because he felt like it. The crazy thing is that sort of thing actually happens sometimes. I remember once a woman called in to Loveline at her wit's end because her little kid kept trying to stab her and murder his baby brother. And I've heard of a few other incidents like that as well. 0 Share this post Link to post
Mr. Freeze Posted October 20, 2010 Craigs said:Did you even see the movie? They really didn't humanize him in the scenes depicting his childhood. If anything they showed just how seriously fucked up he is. I don't see how I'm supposed to show empathy for a kid who beats another kid to death with a tree limb. That's how it came across? I dunno, for me it came as the opposite. I might've been a little biased from seeing The Devil's Rejects, but whatever. That's why Carpenter's version is the absolute best. No gore, lots of suspense, and a truly scary antagonist- very little explanation needed. 0 Share this post Link to post

I only saw the sequel but the "realism" wasn't a problem, rather the bombastic style and its warped state mimicking the (then) current political ideological framework. Perhaps it can be redeemed somewhat in a critical manner as a (debatably unintentional) parody of that framework and of the general flatness in comic books, which are similar to each other. 0 Share this post Link to post

deathbringer Posted October 31, 2010 The new Judge Dredd film is not going to be a re-make, it's going to be completley different and actually based on the comics this time. You can just tell the people who run that website have only the vaguest idea about the character's past and are only aware of the crap movie. That doubtless goes for several others on the list too. Like the Three Musketeers - how is another film based on an old book a "re-make" of any of the previous films? It's just another adaption! How many times has Pride and Prejudice or the Sherlock Holmes stories or stuff by Dickens been done? Were any of those "re-makes"? Mind you the people who now own 2000ad also created a really crap film called Proteus, with horrendous CGI monsters. The "making of" feature on the Proteus DVD features the awesome-looking model monsters that ended up not being used in the film. You can just see that development meeting can't you? "The model monsters don't look absolutely perfect yet" "We can use CGI lol, it's more modern so it's better lol" "I crapped my pants!" Also there's a lot of use of "not been cast yet" or "looking for funding" or "shelved" or "development hell" in the article. I'd be surprised if half of them actually get done. Also LOL @ Red Dawn. How does it feel to be in the shoes of Britain circa 1947, America? hahaha 0 Share this post Link to post
Reisal Posted October 31, 2010 Fucking Hollywood has no real talent these days, nothing but stupid remakes since money has obviously has burned away the last of their thinking and idea cells in their heads. Really now, The Thing? Carpenter's adaption was awesome and the movie doesn't need to be re-made. Again. 0 Share this post Link to post
40oz Posted October 31, 2010 Our generation is so critical over the last 10 years though. Nothing impresses us anymore. I think it may even be possible that the last couple decades of movies were only good because they bring out a nostalgic value to them and are watched as though we were young children again. However, there was a lot more originality. A remake of things that we love or obscure things people weren't totally aware of are an easy to way to get a quick buck but obviously aren't really timeless. I anxiously await the next ten years and listening to 8 year old doomworld posters making links to the movies of the 2000's saying "Now, these were the days." 0 Share this post Link to post

I've seen many good movies from this decade or century, and digital connectivity and "globalization" have done a lot to allow one even more choices than ever, or at least more access. If people just pay attention to crap and don't know how to find the treats among the spam, too bad for them. 0 Share this post Link to post

Why the fuck are they remaking The Orphanage, it just came out like four years ago?! At least Del Toro is still involved, but what the fuck. It's because the movie isn't in english. American cinemas have a bad history of low profit when showing subtitled or dubbed cinema. Therefor they remake new movies that has gone well in Europe for example. This happens alot and I think it is like taking a shit on the original cast of the movie. 0 Share this post Link to post

That too, but I'm sure they're equally concerned about subliminal commie messages in foreign films and must remake them from scratch to make sure that does not happen. 0 Share this post Link to post
Radon Posted November 5, 2010 Ah yes, dwell ourselves into Capitalism as Communism is our enemy. That's like saying WWE Raw is better than Smackdown. It's the same shit, just different brand of politics. 0 Share this post Link to post
spank Posted November 6, 2010 I wouldn't worry so much about Robocop. Darren Aronofsky is going to make it. 0 Share this post Link to post
DoomUK Posted November 6, 2010 Craigs said:I also kind of liked how Rob Zombie expanded upon Michael Myer's childhood in his remake of Halloween as well. I would have enjoyed it more if it wasn't for the characters' incessant use of the word "fuck" or variants of the expletive in every other line of dialogue (as I recall, at least). It's not dramatic, it's just annoying. 0 Share this post Link to post
