I like the elements of the old school merged with the new school. Now if only the game wouldn't be such a buggy piece of crap. I've experienced crashes. Most annoyingly are clipping bugs. Monsters and characters getting stuck in the ground. Patch didn't do fuck all to fix it either.

I came across a blind Death Claw. Killed me being only level 4.

I found that once you managed to get a sniper rifle they're considerably easier to take out. A sneak attack head shot will usually kill them instantly. I'm sure the anti material rifle works even better but I can't use that since my strength isn't high enough.

I love how they can home right in on you despite being blind.

I can't enjoy a game if I have to micromanage save files and quicksave obsessively because I'm expecting it to freeze & crash or glitch out and get me stuck any second. There's too many quality games out there for me to waste time with the Nu-Fallout series.

I've been playing Wolfenstein 3D all day.. doin one thang, and one thang only. Killin Nazis.

Classy.

Got it in the mail yesterday, I've got about 12 hours into it. I suppose that speaks volumes about how much I enjoy it.

Avoid Quarry Junction (or whatever it is) at a low level because Deathclaws do a LOT of damage, even when I dealt with them at level 18 with almost 300 HP. I still have a feeling their attacks still ignore armor/DT.

Best way to deal with them? High ground where they can't get you and wail on them with armor piercing ammunition.

Haha, I'm not even thinking of going there til I'm at least level 20 and have the M95. Very Hard is proving to be quite the challenge even against powder gangers and Legion bitches, Deathclaws I'm not keen on being killed by just yet.

Shame they removed the "higher difficulty == more XP per action" that Fallout 3 had, now it just feels like I'm being kind of masochistic by playing on that setting instead of being rewarded with more bonus.

Just beat NV on Hardcore. Mr. House ending is best ending.

You guys think Deathclaws are hard? I just accidentally wandered into the quarry and came across a Deathclaw Mother, a Deathclaw Alpha, and a shitload of baby Deathclaws. Took me 30 minutes of retrying to kill them, and I'm level 17 with the Gobi Campaign Sniper Rifle, Maria, and the Hunting Shotgun.

Some things I forgot in my previous post(s):

Voice acting: MUCH, MUCH improved. I mean, no Liam Nieson(can't recall how to spell his last name right) unfortunately, but the voice actors actually sound like they can express emotion for the most part, unlike that one male voice you hear most notably in the male Rivet City Security guards.

Though one thing I'm not liking is... for some reason the screens that are supposed to come up when accessing or hacking a terminal don't show up at all so far, making hacking and gaining any information from them impossible, unless that doesn't happen today.

I'm talking about the dialogue that involves the branch choices, not the random rubbish stuff. But hey, even that's better than the "fuck! hahaha, we've got a bleeder!" rubbish the raiders of Fallout 3 yelled.

I've found a fix for that terminal glitch. Apparently holding down the use button when trying to access them will make the game actually draw the interface to the screen.

Been a while since a game like this came out. Where'd all those hours go?

NV feels like Fallout in so many ways, much more than FO3 did. For once you can't have a god character who's master of everything like in TES games in general. Traits and bigger perk rate are good choices looking back. At first I thought that a perk every two levels would make it a bit boring, but perk choices matter much more in NV than they did in 3. Surprised that Bloody Mess still isn't a trait, though.

Played on Hardcore, of course. I've got some mixed feelings about it. Having to drink, eat and sleep makes you feel like you're more in the world, but you really don't have to worry about it. Your guy can go a long time without sleeping at all. The talk about needing a "regular sleep cycle" is BS. Having to use Hydra, Doctors Bag or a doctor to heal a crippled limb is good. Crippling didn't matter at all in FO3 because you could just use a stimpak to heal it, and you'd always have at least 40 of them with you.

My character's tag skills were Explosives, Medicine and Speech. I'm very relieved that Speech is useful again. 3's luck-based speech options were retarded and made Speech useless. Not that it mattered, because you could have 100 in all skills. The writing was better this time around, too. Nothing cringeworthy came up that I can recall. Got a good laugh a couple of times.

On explosives: hardcore mode really watered them down. I pretty much ended up using pistols and rifles 80% of the time, because either the conditions weren't good for explosives usage, or that I didn't have a Missile Launcher by. Usually, by the time my dynamite/grenade was at the enemy, Boone or some other companion had already killed it or was hacking at it with a melee weapon like a retard. Permanent companion deaths were just really annoying, if realistic. Good thing that nobody is immortal anymore, too. Almost nobody. Have to download a childkilling mod and shut the Mick 'n' Ralph's crier up.

About the ML: rockets weight 3 pounds each, missile launcher weighs 20. On top of all ammo having weight and having to carry around grenades and dynamite, I didn't end up using the ML at all. I had 6 strength + Strong Back (+50 carry limit) + Weapon Handling (-2 STR weapon requirements), but at most I had about 70 pounds free.

Also, is Ballistic Fist broken? I got some from Caesar's guards, repaired one to near-full, and kept it in my back for a rainy day. Because most enemies die from it in one hit. With 6 STR. And 20 unarmed. What gives?

I thought it was pretty good,Kinda goes with the idea "If it isn't broken, dont fix it" Quite surprized to see Matthew Perry doing a voice over in a game, I liked the weapon mods and the ammo types,Kinda goes back to the original fallouts,I was overjoyed with actual aim down sights,I didn't see the point in the three different types of money, most of the time I was only able to use caps with merchants,I wasn't really pulled into the storyline like I was in fallout 3.It was fun!

HOWEVER.

The game constantly crashed on me,On my ps3 no less,I usually get an hour or two in before I get realllllly bad lag or a complete lockup,Thank god for autosave,If I didn't,I would have quit awhile ago.

Meh. Early levels if you encounter one you're screwed.

I went back to the area where I found the blind one. Got past it and found a death claw cave. If you survive the whole ordeal you'll find power armor and a gattling grenade launcher thingy.

Aside from the regular deathclaws inside, there's a mommy and an asshole "Legendary" one. But I went with an Intelligent Misanthrope for character creation. Maxed intelligence +17 skill points per level, and then I funneled the 4 points from Charisma into Endurance. Which makes you a walking damage sponge.

Primarily Melee for offense, with guns used sparingly. Chose my perks towards enhancing melee. Level 2 Intense training for + 1STR, Level 4 Intense Training for +1 AGIL, Level 6 Toughness, Level 8 Super Slam.

Found a rebar concrete club, used in conjunction with Med-X, Psycho, and Jet = Dead Deathclaws. They can still pwn you pretty good. But super slam will knock them to the ground and you can beat them while they're on the ground.

Piercing Strike at level 12 is incredible. You can bypass armor and really go to town. Took out an entire cave of Legion with just a Tire Iron. Then proceeded to off the NCR members that were held captive.

What difficulty are you on? I'm playing on Very Hard(despite the lack of XP bonus, because I played a lot of F03 on that difficulty), and just one of them is enough to make you wish you could fast travel away from it. Hell, even just radscorpions(especially the strangely fast giant ones) are that bad. Then again I think I'm maybe level 10 at this point so that's probably part of it.

I don't know, I made a new guy yesterday, and I could kill a Young DC around level 4-6 I think? Had a high Unarmed and a Bladed Gauntlet. Now, normal deathclaws? Fuck that.. probably could kill one now though, level 15, I have around 80 unarmed, Power Fist, the perk that gives melee armor penetration, and Cleanser. It's just that they do a ton of damage, 50 HP isn't going to matter much if you just spam stimpaks, assuming you don't play on HC. Strangely enough Deathclaws never bothered me in FO1/2. Don't think I ever even a saw one in 1, and they can't do jack to you if you have the power armor early in 2.

How's crippling their legs in NV? In 3 at least it slowed them down to such a speed you could whittle them down with a half-broken 10mm pistol. Good that the dart gun was removed, too. If you shot a Deathclaw with one (1) dart in 3, it was pretty much a goner.

My new guy which I mentioned earlier has had a pretty easy time. Casual mode obviously helps quite a lot, but pretty much everything except robots die in one or two hits. Veronica hasn't been that helpful. The only difficult fight that I can recall is the one at the end of Vault

Spoiler

11, where a total of six turrets and a mix or Mr. Gutsies, Robobrains and Protectrons emerge from two monster closets and the door behind closes.

Some peeves about the game in general:
-GameBryo, enough said.
-"You cannot fast travel while jumping or falling." Come on! My guy just landed and it counts as "air"? I had enough of this in Oblivion.
-Companion AI is still retarded. They get in the way, they don't follow orders, hard to give orders, and you can't equip them however you want.
-The UI. Why the hell can't you filter items by weight or value? Why take away a perfectly good feature that was in OBLIVION for god's sake? This was in FO3 too but shopping is still such a pain.
-The ridiculous physics. There were a couple of boxes, I took a bottle cap from the top of one, and all the items on the boxes went flying like I'd kicked the damn box! Crazily spinning swords and ant legs are pretty funny, though.
-Invisible walls and annoying design in general. No Mining Fecality for me, thanks. Thank god for tcl.
-Skill books. Not nearly as bad as it was in 3, but still.
-Having to either alt-tab to the browser, shrink the window and move the game further up the screen or hiding the taskbar. The compass mark just conveniently happens to be entirely hidden if you don't do either. Is it so hard to add "Windowed, No Border"?
-Too many cells in New Vegas. The Strip feels tiny.
-"Backwards Power Attack" is still a pain in the ass to execute.

I have a feeling that I missed something..

On VH, I've been one-hit killed at full health by an adult deathclaw. I don't know if my game's just glitching out and giving enemy critical attacks +500% damage or something, but that's just ridiculous.

I haven't been able to leg cripple them, either. Even AP ammo on a relatively high calibre ammo doesn't do much of anything VATS or not.

Of course, it doesn't help that I'm on the 360 version, and there are no good hotkeys for stimpacks anymore since ammo change is perma-bound to up and any other direction on that godawful piece of shit d-pad decides to register any adjacent direction but the one you pressed half the time, making my guy pull out a .22 pistol or cowboy repeater when I'm trying to heal myself.

Also, why would you want to window mode the game? The engine's buggy enough without messing with window size and leaving the ability to swap windows.

Other than the moving thing, I haven't got other problems with alt-tabbing with the Oblivion GameBryo. If it's on fullscreen, it usually freezes or takes forever. Sometimes I need to check The Vault (which I forgot to mention, wikia on opera is the stuff of nightmares) or something, so alt-tabbing has to be easy.

Beat the game with "No Gods, No Masters." I played through too many of the sidequests IMO which made the ending extremely boring (combat wise.) Basically rolling into the last boss with as many companions as I had took a lot of tension out. Still, the game itself was pretty awesome. There are a lot of super broken things you can do to characters though.

My first character was max INT/CHA. With my high speech, barter, science, and repair, most quests were over without me ever having to fight. And having INT maxed from the start gives you an ungodly amount of skill points to play with.

My new hardcore character had those two classes dropped to 1, and is currently sitting (thanks to intense training) at 10 STR, 10 AGL, 10 LCK. 10 LCK is DISGUSTING. Go to casino. Play blackjack like an asshole. Get 21 pretty much every time. Rinse, repeat, come out with 30,000+ caps.

The main quest writing is much, much better than Fallout 3, as is the atmosphere. Random guys on the street? Not quite as great. Not enough variance in the lines the different voices say. Still, House and Caesar are particularly well written. And I have to say that the Arcade Gammon quest (won't spoil for those of you who haven't played it yet) has got to be one of my favorite RPG quests of all time.

The weapons are better than FO3, and the enemies are less repetitive. No more infinite waves of raiders and supermutants. And west coast supermutants are infinitely more interesting than their DC counterparts. I do wish there were more raider factions, but you make do with what you can get. The fact that they were even split into factions this time was a step up.

As for getting one hit killed by Deathclaws or instant raped by Cazadors? I like it. Unless you insist upon doing a Tyson run of New Vegas, this shouldn't be a problem. You just have to either avoid or adjust your tactics. "Wah, the enemies are too strong on Very Hard!" Too bad. Personally I think unless you're wearing a heavy duty helmet, every person with a gun who scores a headshot should be able to one hit kill you on VH. Let alone a deathclaw using his claw to... deal death.

Also, if you're still thinking of getting this game but haven't picked it up yet, I really recommend it for PC. Mods will increase the value of this game a ton in the long run, and it's proven extremely easy to port them over from Fallout 3 to NV. Plus the PC version is much, much less bugged, and you can always un-bug it through the console in a matter of moments if your companion disappears or something.

tl;dr: It's a good game and I like it :3

Please. I went in to the Quarry with my unarmed character with a Power Fist. There were no survivors. The alpha male died by a critical punch to the crotch.

Vault 34, motherfucker. You want hard? Here's a list:

-Radiation fucking EVERYWHERE. And it increases each floor you descend.
-Shitloads of Ghouls/Glowing Ones. You will shit your pants the first time you hear them all roar at once
-Dark as shit.

Unless you have good weapons, surplus ammo and lots of RadAway, you are fucked. Have fun.

Also, Vault 11 is one of my favorite vaults ever. I mean holy shit.

Haven't checked out V34 yet, I think. Been meaning to hoard some RadAway. V11 was pretty good, the end gave me a little jump even though I was prepped to jump out of my chair stat. The plant vault is pretty overrated. I expected

some huge plant reavers or something, but all there was were some mantises, piranha plants and some dudes engulfed by flower power.

Also: holy shit you can get so much money from the casinos with 6 luck playing the slots. Never cared for card games, but it takes at most about 15 minutes to get banned. So much caps and nothing to spend them on. Already got all implants, including the sucky HP regen one.

As someone who is now playing hardcore I can safely say that the HP regen implant is not sucky at all. Definitely makes my life easier.

Also Vault 34 is amazing, beautifully painful.

Well I'm about 45 hours in and am having a rough time with freezing. I can play for an hour and it will bomb constantly, or several hours without a hitch. Bastards are lucky this game is fun or I'd be in a nerd rage.

The enemies in that vault were kind of disappointing, especially since it seemed almost like the developers were trying to give the impression that I'd be in for the fight of my life, what with the sign outside and the vault and the ominous log entrees on the terminals throughout the vault. The plant guys weren't even a threat at all. I was able to kill them with a single head shot before they were even able to get up.

That said, it's nice to see a twist in the vault theme. In Fallout three it always boiled down to two themes. Rusty vault and new vault.

Finally got done with that Quarry. Not hard with good positioning and the not-Barret M95.

I had a much harder time attacking Cottonwood cove to save that one guy's family. That fight lasted a good half an hour, maybe 40 minutes, 90% of which involved Boone lying on the ground passed out. That was relatively satisfying once it finally concluded, though I miss being able to wear the Van Graff combat armor without it being nearly broken by now.

Jurry rigging perk is the best. Repair Van Graff armor with combat armor? Don't mind if I do. Repair powerarmor with metal armor? Thank you please.

Damn straight, I just need to get my repair to 90 so I can get that.

Damn, I had another little anecdote about a recent occurrence but now I've forgotten it.
