good Head Shop name?

Recommended Posts

My friend and I are opening a head shop since I don't smoke. What's a good name? Jake and James Smoke shop? J&J's Pipe Emporium?

Tobacco shop? ;)

Heh, Head shops are cool. I remember one on Beale that had a signed copy of the Beatles Rubber Soul Album. That's priceless.

I'm not sure I understand this logic. That's like me opening a sex shop. yeh...

call it "...As a Kite"

my shop is gonna be called "Please I'll Even Go Down First"

It's completely insane to me that we have headshops and hit stoner movies and music and whatnot, but I still went to jail for (alleged) "second degree possession of marijuana". It's like, why do we design cars that can go 120+ when the upper speed limit in the USA is 70? So the police jurisdictions can make money in tickets and court costs... although I figure we lose a lot of money jailing stoners and putting them on the public tit (3 square meals, room & board, and all the unsolicited anal sex you could ever dream of. luckily my cellmate was an 18 year old kid)

RAAAAH FUCK THE SYSTEM.

Also, there are other places to drive than public roads with speed limits. And some places don't have speed limits. (See: certain German Autobahns, rural roads on the Isle of Man, etc.)

Your analogy sucks.

What the hell do the Autobahn and the homoerotically-named Isle of Man have to do with United States speed limits? There's no speed limit on the Moon either, yet.

there's places you can get stoned legally too, but I don't live there... as "one nation under God" we will not stoop to that level. We like to get high the old-fashioned way: on booze, nicotine, sex,, antidepressants, painkillers, Jesus, firearms, and muscle cars.

i'm not denying that my analogy sucks (technically it's a simile), just not as hard as the System.

A car is more complicated than you seem to think. If 70 MPH is its top speed, then it takes a while to reach that top speed. Which means its acceleration is crap. Which makes passing other cars dangerous, as it takes too long so it dramatically increases the distance you need. Also, that's 70 MPH on a flat road. If you're climbing an incline, the limited engine will not be able to reach its supposed top speed.

These are the reasons why cars can go faster than the speed limit. Not your conspiracy theory nutjobbery about making them a source of tickets.

My Grand Am has a governor on it so it can't go over 105. Why not set governors to 70?

I wouldn't be so paranoid if EVERYONE WASN'T AGAINST ME

exceeding the speed limit to pass is still speeding, still illegal. Everyone speeds though, except for old people, driver ed. students, and people possessing controlled substances or a warrant for their arrest, so it's kind of a moot point...

oh one more thing. In my state we periodically have "Take Back Our Highways" weekends, usually during travel holidays and sporting events (any time where traffic volume is markedly increased). The cops & highway patrol mercilessly pull over everyone they possibly can for driving 1 mph over the posted speed limit and other minor "infractions" and then report how many tickets they wrote on the nightly local news. Google it if you want to; it's impossible to make up such bull crap. Tell me that's not revenuing, and I'll show you a green dog.

Get Some Head Shop (different font between the first two and last two words so it takes a while to get the joke)

Whatever you do, don't be too explicit. Tommy Chong did like a year in prison for making a company called Chong's Bongs.

You can get stoned legally here in Washington. Just go to a doctor, tell them you have chronic migraines and that opiates make you sick, and bam you're now allowed to legally grow and smoke pot.

Because physically limiting everyone to 70 would make the roads extremely unsafe.

One of the biggest dangers on the roads is clumping of traffic (I skim read a Polish research paper from the 1980s that mathematically modeled traffic flows; it concluded that clumping was inevitable in almost any traffic flow, even when the roads weren't busy - the paper was lying in the scrap paper bin at DAMTP, Cambridge).

In order to "declump", some drivers need to break the speed limit for a while. For that reason it is logical to set a speed limit, and have a degree of tolerance for people going a little over that limit, and only intervene if this is done in an unsafe or reckless manner.

This is actually really interesting. I've never heard anyone make this argument for "safe speeding". I like it very much. I will definitely use this the next time I get pulled over for speeding.

EDIT: as far as head shop names, I was thinking a play on the words peace/piece would be good, but haven't come up with any good ideas yet. One friend suggested "Piece on Earth", but it's a bit hokey. Any clever names using Piece as a double meaning for Peace?

It's a well known fact that traffic clumps are dangerous. They bteach you this in driver's school. At least they told me that. It's why I hate both the motherfuckers that think driving 30 in a 45 is okay, and also the assholes who will tailgate you for 10 miles and fail to pass you when they get the opportunity.

Most "clumps" are caused by drivers who overcompensate when traffic in front of them slows down. The proper way to avoid congestion is to keep a safe distance, observe the flow of traffic (i.e. more than one car ahead), and ease up on the gas pedal.

Most who claim to be good drivers (then go on to claim the speed limit shouldn't apply to them) can't comprehend this.

Well, clumping still happens when it is modeled mathematically, which suggests it is more than a problem of driver psychology. Though in fairness, I don't recall whether they built "asshole" tendencies into the AI. :p

I suggest you call the place:

"Hail to the Bong!"
"Bubbleweed"

Or whatever else you can muster thats based off a Duke quote.

I'm not supporting speed limits or governing cars man. I'm just wondering why everyone is OK with breaking traffic laws every day and possessing cars capable of achieving illegal speed, same as we're OK overall with stoner comedy and smoke shops that obviously sell nothing but paraphernalia for the consumption of Schedule I illegal drugs. hypocrisy in our society and all that.

I buy all mine on the internet because it's cheaper BTW. $40 for a glass spoon and 80 for a bubbler, that dog won't hunt monsignor.

I'm fairly sure the majority of the population is for the legalization of marijuana, it's just that the corporations and police forces that stand to lose money over it have more sway. It's no coincidence that the states that allow the people to vote in laws (propositions and initiatives) are the same states that have legal medical marijuana.

The Man doesn't want you to smoke weed because it would take profits away from big alcohol and big tobacco.

You should trust The Man. He's only thinking about you. You're safe now, love The Man and only take the drugs He says you are allowed to.

Although we already went over the reasons for higher top speed and leeway on exceeding the limit, I'd like to point out how irrelevant this is in the first place. Should guns be illegal? They are capable of achieving illegal killing. Should knives be illegal for that matter? How about masks which can be used to obscure your face during a crime?

Furthermore, weed is illegal and we have all manner of shit, ranging from mostly harmless growers, transporters, and dealers being at odds with the police, all the way to full-scale gang wars. Most evidence shows that legalization and regulation would decrease or eliminate this activity.

People are supposed to govern the laws, not the other way around. Of course, it is in fact the other way around :P
