Don Van Vliet (Captain Beefheart) Dead?!

Recommended Posts

I don't know how I missed his death. I feel really bad. He died December 17, 2010 of his multiple sclerosis.

Truly a unique blend of blues-psychedelic-avant garde made by no other will never be made again. Though, he did retired from music in 1982.

Here's a quick doc for those interested http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4M5YE_a4B1U.

Anyone a fan of Experimental music?

Well that's sad to hear. I've never put Beefheart in a love category personally. He goes in the "interesting" and "important" category for me, but I don't think I've ever been like "I really, REALLY want to listen to Trout Mask Replica right now..." I love Experimental music though, weird sounds and interesting, off kilter patterns and structures of music are what I'm all about. I'm a Zappa fan for sure, and love the Residents. While it sucks that Beefheart died, at the very least it wasn't a fucking tragedy like it was when Zappa died, mid work in like 10 projects and still with a sharp and incisive mind and probably dozens more albums in him.
